Narrator: Once upon a time in Sagami, a young boy named Kintaro

lived on Mt. Ashigara. He was a healthy young man who ran around the
mountains carrying an axe while wearing nothing but a red waistcoat.

Kintaro: Mother, I got some wood.

Mother: Good boy. It’s dinner time.

Kintaro: Let’s eat. Uhhhmmm. Ahhmmm (laughing).

Narrator: Kintaro lived with his sweet mother. His father was said to be
a sky-dwelling red dragon. Kintaro had relationships with the mountain
animals. They built a wrestling ring in the field today and are holding a
wrestling match.

Yellow Rabbit: He’s hanging there!

Bear: hehehe grhhh urggghhh ummmhhh

Yellow Rabbit: wahhhhhh hahhh (thrown by the big bear)

Narrator: The great, big bear was the strongest of the animals.
He flung the other animals out of the ring one by one.

Kintaro: And now it’s my turn!

Bear: Don’t cry when I send you flying.

Kintaro: Ready, Go! Ummmm ……

Bear: Ahhhhw….I’m out. Ohhhh!

Narrator: Next they had a tug of war.

Bear: We're all up against Kintaro now, and we can't lose.

Kintaro: Annnggggg Annnngggg Annggg!

Bear: That’s it. Pull! Pull!

Kintaro: higggg! Uggggghhhhh.

Bear: You can do it. Pull him back.

Narrator: Kintaro and his friends often had races. Today they’re racing
each other to the top of the mountain.

Bear: Waaaaiiiit up!

Friends: hooooohoooo whooohoooo…

Rabbit: Alright we’re almost there.

Kintaro: Now it’s time to really cut loose.

Rabbit: Huhhhhh. Oh no There’s no way I can beat Kintaro.

Narrator: One hot summer day they went swimming at a pond.

Kintaro: Ready, Go!

Narrator: While Kintaro was swimming, a giant carp who owned the
pond appeared.

Carp: If it isn’t Kintaro. Even you can’t beat me in the water then.

Kintaro: Oh yes I can.

Carp: Well then, try and catch me if you can.

Kintaro: Alright. Uwaahhh huh.

Carp: Come on, over here.

Kintaro: uhhhmmmmmm Wait up! Gotcha!

Narrator: The surprised carp leapt into the air, Kintaro on his back.
Kintaro was also a very nice young man. When his mother's eyes
worsened, he carried her on his back to an eye-care spa.

Mother: Kintaro, have a rice ball.

Kintaro: It’s OK. I’m not hungry. You can eat my share, Mother.

Narrator: Along the way Kintaro carved an image of a child god on a

rock with his fingernails, praying to cure his mother’s eyes. And so his
mother’s eyes instantly recovered.

Narrator: One day there was a storm on peaceful Mt. Asigara. Heavy
rain fell and a strong wind blew. Even Kintaro couldn’t go outside on a
day like this.
Kintaro: Heyyyy! Everybody, are you OK? Hello?

Narrator: On the mountain a rabbit was trapped under a fallen tree.

Rabbit: Uhhhhhhhhhuhuhhhh help me!

Rabbit: Ah! Kintaro!

Kintaro: Are you OK?

Rabbit: Yes thank you!

Kintaro: Eeeehawww.

Narrator: Kintaro went further and found some animals trapped on a

cliff on the other side of a ravine.

Bear: The bridge washed out and we can’t cross over.

Kintaro: Ok, wait there. Hahhh! hAHHH! Hahhhh! (cutting a tree).

Friends: Hurray! Thanks Kintaro! Thanks! Hurray!

Narrator: And thus the happy days returned to Mt. Ashigara. Then,
one day, a great warrior named Minamoto No Yorimitsu was travelling
close to Mt. Ashigara. Yorimitsu looked up to see a red cloud hovering
over the mountain. He took three of his guys into the mountains to
investigate.

Boar: Hoorrrrr ahhhh heeeee orrrr I’m out!

Kintaro: Ready…hya- - - !
Yorimitsu: What a powerful kid. You, now what’s your name?

Kintaro: I’m Kintaro.

Yorimitsu: What do you say, Kintaro? How about wrestling one of my

men?

Urabe Suetake: Yorimitsu, you must be joking, He’s only a child. Huh
huh huh huhhhh

Narrator: Urabe Suetake, being careless was easily thrown out.

Usui Sadamitsu: Yorimitsu, I’m next.

Narrator: Usui Sadamitsu then challenged the young man. But he was
also quickly dismissed. The large guy, Watanabe No Tsuna, then
stepped forward. Watanabe was quite powerful, and the two were
stuck.

Yorimitsu: The result’s is a tie then.

Narrator: Yorimitsu was about to intervene when Kintaro trip-tripped

Watanabe.
Yorimitsu: Then this child is a true powerhouse.
Kintaro, what do you think? What about coming to the capital as one of
my men?

Kintaro: What? The Capital? Sorry but, I can’t leave my mother all
alone.

Yorimitsu: Ha! Ha! Ha! And a kind boy, too hahahaha.

Narrator: Yorimitsu went home with Kintaro to talk to his mother. She
was surprised at first, but agreed to let Kintaro go to the capital.

Mother: I knew this day would come when you were born. The cloud
he saw over the mountain was a message from your father in heaven.
Kintaro, go make yourself a great warrior.

Kintaro: Yes, mother. I’ll do my best.

Narrator: The next day, Kintaro set off for the capital.

Narrator: Kintaro was given the name Sakata Kintoki and trained hard.
He eventually joined Urabe Suetake, Usui Sadamitsu, and Watanabe No
Tsuna to form Shitenno, a band of four best warriors capable of
defeating ogres.
