heat c) heat capacity d)heat of solution
12. To 16 physics question

Q. no 17 to 20 are Assertion - Reasoning based questions. These consist of two statements – Assertion (A) and
Reason (R). Answer these questions selecting the appropriate option given below: (a) Both A and R are true and R
is the correct explanation of A (b) Both A and R are true and R is not the correct explanation of A (c) A is true but
R is false (d) A is False but R is true

17. Assertion( A) – matter is made up of small particles.

Reason(R)- the matter around us exists in three states- solid , liquid and gas

18. Assertion (A) –cotton clothes are always preferred during hot weather.

Reason (R)- cotton is a good absorber of water which helps in absorbing swat and exposed it to the atmosphere for easy
evaporation.

19. Assertion (A) –the fundamental organisational unit of life is the cell.

Reason (R)- cells are enclosed by a plasma membrane composed of lipids and proteins.
20- Assertion (A) – most plants cells have large membranous organelles called plastids, which are of two types-
chromoplasts and leucoplasts.

Reason (R)- chromoplasts that contain chlorophyll are called chloroplasts and they perform photosynthesis.

SECTION – B
Q. no. 21 to 26 are very short answer questions
21. Write the two statements to show that lysosomes are aptly called the suicide bags of the cell.

22. Give two difference between ligaments and tendons.

SECTION – E
Q.no. 37 to 39 are case - based/data -based questions with 2 to 3 short sub

Q37. An element as a basic form of matter that cannot be broken down into simpler substances by chemical
reactions. Elements can be normally divided into metals, non-metals and metalloids. Examples of metals
are gold, silver, copper etc. Examples of non-metals are hydrogen, oxygen, iodine etc. Some elements have
intermediate properties between those of metals and non-metals, they are called metalloids. A compound
is a substance composed of two or more elements, chemically combined with one another in a fixed
proportion. The material obtained by the group I is a mixture of the two substances. The properties of the
mixture are the same as that of its constituents.

1. is the only metal that is liquid at room temperature.

a. silver
b. gold
c. copper
d. mercury
2. The colourless gas with the smell of rotten egg is found in
a. group II
b. group IV
c. group III
d. group I
3. The constituent of compounds are separated by
a. both chemical reaction and electrochemical reaction
b. electrochemical reaction
c. none of these
d. chemical reaction
4. Who was the first scientist to use the term elements?
a. Antoine Laurent
b. Robert Boyle
c. Robert Brown
d. none of these
Question No. 38 are based on the given text. Read the text carefully and answer the questions:

The plasma membrane is the outermost covering of the cell that separates the contents of the cell from its
external environment. The plasma membrane allows or permits the entry and exit of some materials in
and out of the cell through osmosis and diffusion. Osmosis is the passage of water from a region of high
water concentration through a selectively permeable membrane to a region of low water concentration till
equilibrium is reached. If the medium has exactly the same water concentration as the cell, there will be no
net movement of water across the cell membrane. Osmosis is a special case of diffusion through a selectively
permeable membrane. Diffusion is important in the exchange of gases and water in the life of a cell. In
addition to this, the cell also obtains nutrition from its environment.

1.In diffusion, there is a spontaneous movement of a substance from a region of concentration to

a region where its concentration is .
e. low, low
f. high, low
g. low, high
h. high, high
2.The plasma membrane is flexible and is made up of
I. protein
II. lipids
III. fat
IV. carbohydrates
a. (IV) and (I)
b. (II) and (III)
c. (I) and (II)
d. (III) and (IV)
3.Unicellular freshwater organisms and most plant cells tend to gain water through
i. osmosis
j. absorption
k. none of these
l. diffusion
4.The cell will shrink in which of the following solution?
