PARTS AND DEFINITION OF WATER CLOSET

1. Ballcock - a valve that automatically fills a tank after the liquid has been drawn. For example, in a flush
toilet, a ballcock has a float on the end of a pivoting arm that opens the valve when the arm drops.

2. Flapper - A toilet flapper is the part of your toilet that seals the opening between the tank and the toilet
bowl. When the toilet is flushed, a rubber tank ball or flapper lifts out of the way, and water rushes into the
bowl. An old, worn tank ball or flapper is prone to leaks, and the best way to fix it is to replace it.

3. Flush valve - A Flush Valve, as the name suggests, is a component found inside a toilet cistern that is
used for flushing out the contents of the toilet into a sewer system/septic system through a drainpipe.

4. Supply tube - Toilet water supply lines carry water from a nearby cold-water supply line to your toilet
tank to enable it to flush. Toilet water supply lines may develop leaks for a variety of reasons. The rigid
tubes can bend or break if accidentally kicked or bumped.

5. Shut-off valve - Shut-off valves are designed to safely stop or continue the flow of hazardous fluids or
external gases. They block compressed air in an industrial automation process or isolate sub-systems when
not in use.

6. Main Drain - The giant pipe leaving the house is your main drain. Most clogs in the main drain occur
from stoppages outside the house. Clogs in the main drain line will back up into the lowest point of the
house (likely the basement), with plumbing openings. (floor drain, toilet, laundry tub, bathtub)

7. Float ball - A floating ball or bowl moves along the surface of the water in a well or container and
activates a valve or switch when the water level reaches a predetermined limit

8. Lift chain - Chain: The toilet lift chain is the length of metal links connecting the toilet lever to the
flapper. Float: This buoyant device, sometimes part of the flush valve, regulates the amount of water in the
tank. The toilet tank float may also be called the float valve or ballcock.

9. Trap - toilet trap, or trap way, is a curving channel inside the base of a toilet that leads from the hole at
the bottom of the bowl to the drainpipe. The stoppage usually exists in the trap when a toilet backs up, and
the clog does not occur in the drainpipe.

10. Base - the base of your toilet is held to the ground with two tee bolts. If these bolts loosen, the bathroom
will likely rock, causing the seal formed by the wax ring to break. Drain water may seep out of the base each
time you flush the toilet if your tee bolts are very loose.

11. Wax ring -toilet wax ring prevents leaks from the bottom of the toilet. They're durable and relatively
simple to install. If the floor around your toilet stays wet long enough, it becomes spongy. Then the toilet
starts to rock, mold grows, and the bathroom smells like a sewer.
