As per ICAR guidelines for Centre for
Advanced Faculty Training (CAFT) October
2021, a registration fee (non-refundable) of
Rs.1000/- per participant (Rs. 5000/- in case
of candidates from private ICAR-accredited
Colleges/Universities) has to be paid through
Demand Draft in favour of “Professor cum
Director, CAFT in Avian Sciences” at the time
of online registration for joining the training.
However, the participant may send an advance
copy (via e-mail) directly to the Course Director.
The selected candidate will be informed
individually through e-mail. The participants
are requested to keep in contact with the Course
Director regarding their selection status and make
necessary advance travel booking to enable

ABOUT THE PLACE
Namakkal is an agro-industrial town of
Tamil Nadu situated on the NH-7, 55 km from
Salem on the way to Madurai / Trichy. This
place is very well connected with Rail up to
Salem / Namakkal from all over the country.
The nearest railway station is Namakkal
Town station (7 kms) and Salem (65 kms).
The nearest airport is Trichy (85 kms) and
Coimbatore (160 kms).
The Namakkal zone has a tropical semi-
arid type of climate with below normal
rainfall. This place has obtained national
importance in terms of transport, lorry body
building and poultry industry. More than

Meenakshi Amman in Madurai are of historical

 INTRODUCTION
The poultry industry has undoubtedly
been the most successful of any of the animal
industries. Diversified poultry systems are now
considered as the viable livelihood option
for small and marginal farmers. Diversified
poultry includes duck, turkey, Japanese quail,
guinea fowl, goose and pigeons. It may also
include all poultry production systems other
than commercial egg and broiler chicken
production. Ducks account for 7 per cent of
poultry population and are mostly found in
coastal states of the country and in states with
more lakes and rivers like West Bengal, Orissa,
Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam,
Jammu and Kashmir and Tripura. Duck farming
is still in primitive stage and indigenous ducks
out number than exotic ducks in spite of their
inferior performance. Japanese quail farming
is a low cost farming with increasing promise.
Turkey, guinea fowl and goose farming are still
in their infant stage. Emu and ostrich farming
have also been tried. The prevailing socio-
agro-economic scenario of this sub-continent
needs broad spectrum of poultry alternatives
to meet the different local requirements. The
availability of such diversification possibilities
would maximize the returns from a given
level of inputs and also minimize the risks
and hazards to the environment Therefore
a training programme on “Harnessing
latest technologies in management, health,
marketing and economics of diversified
poultry for upliftment of rural farmers” is
being organized in the Centre of Advanced
Faculty Training in Avain Sciences, Veterinary
College and Research Institute, Namakkal to
facilitate the latest advancement in diversified
poultry production.

COURSE CONTENT
The training is designed to impart brief
theoretical knowledge and practical approach
on management, nutrient requirements,
health, marketing and economics of diversified
poultry like Japanese quails, turkey, guinea
fowl, duck, emu and ostrich.
On the practical side, the trainees will
be trained in the Animal Feed Analytical and
Quality Assurance Laboratory, Poultry Disease
Diagnosis and Surveillance Laboratory and
Poultry Farm Complex at Veterinary College
and Research Institute, Namakkal. Participants
will be taken to poultry processing unit, egg
powder production plant, diversified poultry
product preparation unit and commercial
Japanese quail, duck and turkey farms.

TRAVEL

AC III Tier fare and for which evidence has
to be produced.
b) DA from the date of departure to the date
of arrival will be paid lieu of incidental
