Encore®/Eclipse® CRINDS®

halting on Starting Application

Related Equipment:

• Encore/Eclipse Monochrome CRIND

• Encore 700 S FlexPay II CRIND
• Encore 700 S FlexPay IV CRIND
• Encore EMV CRIND

Potential Issues:

The CRIND display may halt on “Starting Application” on one or both sides.

Symptoms:

In certain scenarios when using a MOC application the CRIND display may show “Starting
Application” on either one or both sides and goes no further. The CRIND may not communicate
with the point of sale or may show “Busy” or “Offline: No Totals Received”.

Note: Prior to proceeding, verify that there are no

pending/unfinished transactions on the point of sale.

Further Information:

“Starting Application” is a message displayed by the CRIND during the normal startup process.
When in MOC mode this message indicates that the CRIND is attempting to gather information
from the Pump Control Node (PCN). If the CRIND appears to halt at that point, there may be an
issue that needs to be addressed before the CRIND will come online with the point of sale.

If D9 (RX) on the PCN is solid:

• Test for a physical break in the two-wire loop between the CRIND and PCN.
• If the communication loop tests OK, then the issue is potentially a component or jumper
setting in the communication loop between the CRIND and the PCN.

If D9 (RX) is blinking, but D10 (TX) is off:

• Is the PCN (CC24) in standalone?

o If the PCN is in standalone, the PCN will not respond to the CRIND.
• Are the IDs programmed into the PCN (CC40) as 7 & 11?
o In an MOC CRIND environment, the IDs must always be 7/11.
• Are there errors showing on the Door Nodes or PPUs?
o Some errors may not allow the PCN to complete the startup sequence and must be
remedied before the unit will be able to communicate with the CRIND.
• Is CC 90 set to the correct unit type?
o If the settings in the POS and PCN do not match, there may be a grade conflict.
• Have CC 47 options been changed (CC47 FC 5)?
o Check on a communicating unit to confirm proper settings. CC47 FC 5 should be
verified as set to 1 (5787).
• Has the pump baud rate setting in CRIND programming been changed from 5787?
o Baud rate settings in the CRIND and PCN must match for communication to be
successful. Not all CRIND platforms have this setting, check the applicable CRIND
MDEs for details.
• Are any pump related settings in CRIND devices such as Omnia correct?

If D9 is blinking, the above has been checked and the issue persists:

1) Place the unit in standalone.

2) Initialize a test transaction and allow the unit to reset to all zeroes, but do not dispense.
3) Terminate the test.
4) Repeat on the opposite side.
5) Remove the unit from standalone.
6) Warmstart the unit.

If “Starting Application” persists, there may be a problem with a component in the CRIND
(Example: CRIND Control Node or HIP PCA), PCN or related cabling. Isolate components using
known working components to determine if a component is the issue.
