DETAILED LESSON PLAN

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the student will be able to:
1. Identify and recognize the color order of Straight Through LAN Cable
2. Understand the procedures and steps in making Straight Through LAN cable
3. Perform and create a functionalStraight Through cable

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Creating Straight Through LAN Cable
Materials: Laptop/Projector
UTP Cable & RJ-45 plugs,Crimping Tool, LAN Tester

III. Procedure

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY

A. Preliminary Activities
i. Opening Prayer

ii. Greetings
Good afternoon, class

You may now take your seats.

iii. Checking of Attendance

Secretary May I know who are
absent for today?

Nice…I am glad that we have a

complete attendance for this
afternoon, because of that kindly
give yourselves an ICT clap
B. Review
Yesterday, we discussed about the two types
of LAN Cable… Again what are the two Sir, the two most commonly used cable are the
most commonly used cable? Straight through and Cross over cable

Yes, very good. We tackled also the uses of

Straight through and Cross-over LAN cable
and the tools and materials needed in
creating those cable

So before we proceed to our new lesson let’s

have a simple review.

What is the difference of Straight through

cable and Cross-over cable?

Before you answer I’ll show you first a

picture and tell what type of cable is used in
connecting the given devices, so the answer
is either Straight through or Cross-over Straight through
cable…let’s start Straight through
1. Computer via Router Cross over
2. Computer via Switch Cross over
3. Router via Router Straight through
4. Computer via Computer
5. Hub via Router

Okay, Very Good! Since you have an idea, Straight through cable is used when connecting
I will ask again my question a while back, what unlike devices while cross-over cable is used
is the difference of using Straight when the two devices are the same.
through and Cross over cable?

Very Good! It seems that you still remember the Crimping tool
uses of the two LAN cable.

How about the tools and materials in creating

LAN cable? Can you give one

Yes very Good! Can you show in front of the

class where is the crimping tool?

What else?

Okay! Can you show the UTP cable and RJ45

plugs in front of your classmates

Anymore? We used the LAN Tester to test the strength and

connectivity of a particular type of cable.

Where do we used the LAN Tester?

Class, straight through and Cross-over are not

just vary in their usage but also to the color
order of their wires

Since our lesson for today is Creating Straight

through cable, we will just focus on this cable
and it steps and procedures. Understand?

The first thing to consider to create a straight

through cable is to recognize itscolor order.
Since the UTP cable consists of 8 wires inside, it
also contains 8 different colors.

C. Motivation
I have here my friend mouse to help us arrange
the missing color for this illustration which is
the T568A

Reminder class, If the LAN cable is Straight

Trough, the both ends is T568A

So, let’s have a game to arrange the order of the Student 1

said cable. White with the green stripes for pin 1

Who wants to volunteer first? Student 2

Here’s my friend mouse that will able to help Solid green for pin 2
you

Very good!Give the mouse to your classmate

that you want to recognize the color for pin 2 White with the orange stripes for pin 3
Solid blue for pin 4
Nice! Same instruction, pass the mouse to your White with the blue stripes for pin 5
classmates that you want to recognize the color Solid Orange for pin 6
for pin 3 White with the brown stripes for pin 7
Solid Brown for pin 8

D. Lesson Proper
Since you already know the uses and the color
order of Straight Through cable, we will now
proceed in creating this cable

So here are the steps in creating Straight

Through LAN Cable

Step 1
Unroll the required length of network cable and
add a little extra wire, just in case

Step 2
Carefully remove the outer jacket of the cable

Step 3
Untwist the pairs so they will lay flat between
your fingers

Step 4
Arrange the wires into the color order of T568A:
White with the green stripes
Solid green
White with the orange stripes
Solid blue
White with the blue stripes
Solid Orange
White with the brown stripes
Solid Brown

Step 5
Straighten up the wires so it will be easier to put
them inside the RJ45 plug

Step 6
Cut the wires to proper length

Step 7
Press all the wires flat and parallel between your
thumb and forefinger.
Verify the colors have remained in the correct
order

Step 8
Once the wires are properly inserted
we’re now going to crimp it using
the crimping tool and then we have to repeat the
steps on the other ends of the cable
with same color order T568A:
White with the green stripes
Solid green
White with the orange stripes
Solid blue
White with the blue stripes
Solid Orange
White with the brown stripes
Solid Brown

E. Application
(Performance Task no. 1)
Please prepare your tools and materials in
making your task. I’ll give you 20 minutes to
finish your Straight Through LAN cable. We
will check your own cable later, with the use of
LAN Tester.
Please observe health and safety procedure
while working.

This is our criteria in cheking your outputs.

F. Generalization

What did you learn about our lesson?

IV. Evaluation

Can I have your work please! We will test your cable if it is working properly. When the 8 lights turned on
continuously, it means that your cable is properly done. Ever group will submit only 1cable to check if it is
working or not. (Rubrics will be presented via slide show)
