Mistake #2: Using the incorrect type and amount of chemicals

Why avoid it?

Incorrect chemical quantities and inappropriate chemicals may end up damaging the floor.

What is the corrective action?

To avoid such floor cleaning mistakes, you must:

•usage of cleaning solutions as mentioned in the SOP [F4/EN/018: Cleaning and sanitization of plant and premise]. Know
the cleaning solution to use for cleaning. If unsure of the composition, refer label and ask area supervisor.

•Read product labels before using the chemicals. Always use the product in the right dilution. Over-diluted product will
lead to improper cleaning whereas under-diluted product will lead to sticky floors.

•Use a reliable floor cleaner.

not the right way to go.

•Clean the floors thoroughly with a disinfectant.

•follow the frequency of cleaning as mentioned in the SOP.

•Avoid aggressive cleaning, or else the cleaning action will damage the floor.

Mistake #4: Considering every cleaner as a Disinfectant

Why avoid it?

Not all cleaners are disinfectants, use correct cleaning agents mentioned in the SOP. This ignorance could lead to the floors
not being disinfected during or after cleaning, thus increasing the susceptibility to infection.

What is the corrective action?

These floor cleaning mistakes can be avoided by reading the product labels.

Mistake #5: Using only 1 mop for cleaning all areas

Why avoid it?

A singular mop used in processing areas and corridors could cause cross-contamination.

What is the corrective action?

Designate mops for cleaning floors of different areas and keep them separate after washing them.

Mistake #6: Failing to follow a regular cleaning schedule

Why avoid it?

Irregular cleaning may lead to loss of floor luster and amplify the costs for floor maintenance. Moreover, stains may
be harder to remove if present for a longer duration.

What is the corrective action?

Clean floors regularly with the dedicated cleaner and examine them for potential problems.

Mistake #7: Failing to train employees.

Why avoid it?

Often, the root cause of any of the earlier mistakes comes down to not dedicating the time to thoroughly train all
cleaning staff

What is the corrective action?

Make sure you have dedicated onboarding for all new staff — and take the time to regularly re-train staff to keep
cleaning requirements fresh in their minds.

Any time something changes in your floor cleaning program — new flooring, new equipment, new product, etc. —
you should be doing specific staff training on the change.

Above all, focus on the when, what, how and why.
