1.1 Appropriate use

Please read the operation manual in order to familiarize yourself with all
specifications of the TECTUS reader-board-test-unit.

 Follow the instructions in order to ensure reliable operation of the appliance.


 Accomplish all maintenance and test work

Warranty and liability claims in the case of bodily injury or material damage are
excluded at one of the following causes.:

 Inappropriate Use
 Inappropriate assembling, implementing, operation or maintenance
 Ignoring of details of this manual
 Non-permissible constructional change of this Unit

 Inappropriate maintenance or use of spare parts that are not admitted by
manufacturer

Only authorized qualified personnel is allowed to perform maintenance.

Qualified personnel means an:

 Electrical engineering technician


 who knows the general safety notes,
 who read the manual guide before starting work

further more for operation

 who knows the general construction notes


 who knows the instruction for operator and appliance protection
 who did a course of instruction or who read the necessary part of this manual
to perform the maintenance and is familiar with all effects of the use of the
appliance

2.1.4 Description

Transponder Reader TPF-35-EX-45 generates an electromagnetic Field with a


frequency of 125 kHz with the help of on or two external antennas.
This field is able to storing and retrieving data using devices called RFID tags or
transponders remotely
The data of the Transponder could be send to the serial Port of a PC.

2.3 Application hints

2.3.1 Labeling
The Labeling of the Transponder Reader TPF-35-EX-45 takes place by fixing of a
name plate ( 70 x 30 x 0,5 mm³) at the exterior of the unit and al smaller plastic one
at the interior of the unit.

The Serial number contains the calendar year, calendar week, part number and
the production number.

2.3.2 Commissioning

Before commissioning in explosive atmosphere make a safety and function test


(be sure that no gas or dust is in the atmosphere) .
Unsafe operating condition should be excluded .
Only a positive function- and safety test guaranteed an appropriate use.

2.3.3 Use

Use the Transponder-Reader TPF-35-EX-45 in areas with the explosion safety group
I and IIB T4 , that are at risk by black damp and/or flammable dust.
The use of the reader is only allowed in the conditions of the admission.
The supply of the units and the interconnections of all in-and outputs have to take
place under the terms of the admission.
All other use is in need of a separate admission and expertise.

2.3.4 Assembling and Disassembling

Assembling and Disassembling of the Transponder-Reader TPF-35-EX-45 have to


be in a zero potential status.
Assemble the Unit in a way that a good operation is possible.
The operator of the reader should stand out of a risk area.

2.3.5 Maintenance and Attendance

The Transponder-Reader TPF-35-EX-45 is normally maintenance-free.


In the case of an annoyance change the whole unit.
To remedy annoyance only change Parts or Assembly that is stuck or screwed.

All parts or assembly groups that must change in the case of an assembly have to be
original spare parts of the manufacturer. The Use of other spare parts or the
maintenance on one’s own authority expired the warranty.
Observe precautions for changing or handling of electronic assembly groups
because of electrostatic sensitive devices.
Observe all directives for handling electrostatic sensitive devices.
Only the manufacturer or assigned and controlled repair shops are permitted to
practice maintenance.

2.3.6 Installation

The close of all circuits of the Transponder-Reader TPF-35-EX-45, the appropriate


antenna and other utilities is only permitted with the conformance of the admission.
The supply of the units and the interconnection of all in- and outputs is defined in
The documentation of the EC Type Examination..
A use, that is not mentioned in the admission, is not permitted.
In the case that an other manufacturer exhibit the EC Type examination of the whole
equipment, the documents of this project planning are binding.

You need special settings for the hardware installation :


Adjustment of the antenna:
Before you start the adjustment make sure by a suitable measurement that there is
gas or dust in the area.
Open the equipment not until 2 minutes after switch off the power supply.

2.3.7 Education
Qualified personnel should be trained in use of this equipment.

2.3.8 Electric parameters an other parameters

An EC Type Examination is attached to this manual - xx ATEX E xxx.


You can consult the electric parameters of this equipment in part (xx)
of the Type Examination .
Use the equipment in an ambient air temperature of -20°C to +50°C.

2.4 Emissions

2.4.1 Electromagnetic Radiation

The Transponder Reader TPF-35-EX-45 produces an electromagnetic field with a


frequency of 125kHz.
The maximum radiated power is less than 2 Watt.
The shape of the electromagnetic field depends on the antenna geometry and the
properties of the antenna environment ( e.g. iron parts).

There are 2 apertures to fasten the case by 2 screws ( M 10).

2.5.2 Electrical properties

The Transponder Reader TPF-35-EX-45 needs a Voltage of 115 Volt AC or 230 Volt
AC.
The power consumption is less than 15 Watt.
The radiate power of the antenna is less than 2 Watt.

If there are only bores without screw thread in the mounting surface add
screw nuts 2 M10 and 2 grommets M10 .

Fix the Transponder ReaderTPF-35-EX-45 with 2 screws M10 on a rugged


Mounting surface (load bearing capacity ...) ( see the case fixing points in chapter
2.5.1.1)

Connect the supply voltage on clamp X1, that could located in the
connection box 1 or 2 ( increased safety).
The supply is 115 Volt AC or 230 Volt AC .

Attention ! The choice for the supply voltage takes place by an extern
connection assembly on clamp X8 in the inner pressure resistant case.

3.4.2.1.2 Inputs

The Transponder Reader TPF-35-EX-45 have 2 opto- decoupled Inputs.


The Connection takes place on clamp X4.
Clamp 4 can be located in the connection box 1 or 2 (increased safety).
The input-power is max. 30 Volt DC .
The inputs have an inverse polarity protection

Outputs

The Transponder Reader TPF-35-EX-45 have 3 Relay Outputs (change-over


contacts).
The connection of the outputs take place on clamp X5.
Clamp 5 can be located in the connecting box 1 or 2 ( increased safety ).
The Output switching voltage is max. 60Volt AC,
The switching current is max. 2 Ampere per channel.

Antennas

The connection of the antenna takes place on Clamp X3. Its only permitted to
connect antennas, that are listed in the admission.
The Clamp X3 can be located in the connecting box 1 or 2 (increased safety ).

Serial Interface (RS485)

The connection of a serial RS485 Interface to an extern equipment takes place on


clamp X2.
The close of all circuits of the Transponder-Reader TPF-35-EX-45 to the other
utilities is only permitted with the conformance of the admission

The connection to serial RS232 Interface takes place on clamp X2 too.

3.4.2.1.8 TCPIP Interface


By using TCPIP it is possible to use the same clamps like RS485.

It is necessary to change the internal wiring to TCPIP.

3.4.2.2 Operating elements

The Transponder Reader TPF-35-EX-45 has no operating elements.

3.4.2.2.1 Indices elements

The Transponder Reader TPF-35-EX-45 has 4 LED for the indices of different
operating states.

LED Ant. OK.: Lights, until the antenna adjustment is incorrect


LED Tag: Lights, when a Transponder is identified in the field.
LED Power: Lights, when the supply power is connected.
LED TX: Lights, when data (e. G. Transponder-Number) are
assigned to the serial Interface

3.4.3 Implementing

If the temperature of the Transponder Reader TPF-35-EX-45 is much


less than the temperature in the environment than warm up the Reader
temperature.

3.4.3.1 System integration

Be sure that you connect only one Interface while working with the Transponder
Reader TPF-35-EX-45 (RS485 or TCPIP or RS232) or the digital In- and Outputs of
an extern equipment
(Observe all directives for the extern equipment).

3.4.4 Antenna Adjustment

To attain a large reading range an Adjustment of the antenna is necessary.


You can do this via software commands like. Please look for the commands in the
software protocol description.

3.5 Disassembling

3.5.1 Description of the disassembling

3.5.1.1 Safety Devices


The Transponder ReaderTPF-35-EX-45 works with a power supply of
230 Volt AC. In addition there are high voltages at the antenna
connection.
Before working make sure that the Transponder Reader is voltage free
and wait before opening the case at least 2 minutes.

3.5.1.2 Connections
 Switch The Transponder Reader TPF-35-EX-45 and the connected Utilities to
a zero potential
 Open all used connection boxes of the TPF-35-EX-45
 Disconnect all supply lines and connecting clamps
 Open all cable leads and remove all supply lines
 Close al connection boxes with the adapted caps

3.5.2 Disposal
The Equipment contains electronic parts , that have to disposal in a
approved way.

4 Attendance

4.1 Attendance
This equipment is maintenance free. (see chapter 2.3.5)

4.2 Inspection
Inspections of the Transponder-Reader TPF-35-EX-45 are only essential within
the scope of the operating requirements

4.3 Maintenance

Maintenance is only permitted by

 manufacturer
 repair shops authorized by the manufacturer
o in the scale of the authorization
o according to the maintenance and test assignment by the
manufacturer
