Chapter 1 Introduction

It is recommended that this chapter is consulted before using the manual. The chapter contains
information that is important for the correct usage of the manual.

Chapter 2 System Description

This chapter gives a general description of the technical features and functions of the equipment. The
descriptions range from complete overviews down to detailed clarifications of all individual
components.

Chapter 3 Block Diagrams

Clearly presented block diagrams compliment chapter 2 and simplify complicated interrelationships.

Chapter 4 Removal / Installation

Clear instructions with supporting illustrations describe the removal / installation of the most important
assemblies and components.

Chapter 5 Diagnostics

If a fault cannot be localized immediately, the cause of the fault must be isolated by methodical action.
Electrical measurements are an integral part of these activities, as are the following of systematic test
processes. This chapter is indispensable for troubleshooting.

Chapter 6 Wiring Diagrams

Comprehensive wiring diagrams of the MASTERPULS MP50 are provided for servicing specialists.

Chapter 7 Maintenance

The individual maintenance steps are documented in the operating manual.

Chapter 8 Spare Parts Catalog

Please use the spare parts catalog to order spare parts. With its help parts can easily be identified and
part numbers found for the order.

Chapter 9 Modifications

The MASTERPULS MP50 is subjected to some upgrades, which are implemented in the systems.
The upgrades are documented in this chapter. The documents partly replace the corresponding
section in the documentation.

2.2 General
Task of the board main MP50 is to control internal components as valves, pressure sensor, a
compressor and the external applied part. To communicate with the operator a numeric display and
some buttons are provided.

2.3 Hardware
The display and the complete electronic is mounted on a single board. The external components, the
membrane keyboard and the power supply are connected to this board.

2.3.1 Power supply

The board main MP50 is supplied with 5V for the micro controller and glue logic and 24V to drive the
solenoid valves and the compressor.

2.3.2 User interface

The user interface consists of some 7-segment displays to indicate the actual working pressure, a
treatment counter and the working frequency of the handpiece. Three push buttons (up/down) one the
membrane keyboard are provided to modify the frequency and to reset the treatment counter.

By pressing the up/down buttons simultaneously the operator can enter a info menu where the total
counter and a working hour counter can be accessed.

2.3.3 DIP switch

An internal DIP switch SW1 is foreseen to enter service options. Fore more details see chapter 5 of
the service manual.

2.3.4 Pressure sensor

A single chip pressure sensor with pressure port is located on the board to detect the actual working
pressure of the applied part. The pressure is represented by a corresponding voltage. This voltage is
feed into the on chip 10 bit AD converter of the micro controller.

A reference device IC10 ensures a precision voltage presetting for the converter.

11-053-02-0910 2-7
2.3.5 Service connector
The service connector X5 is foreseen for board testing and setting some basic software options.

2.3.6 Applied part

The applied part consists of a solenoid pressure valve, a trigger switch and a handpiece type
detection, connected to X3. The valve is controlled by an integrated driver IC7. A diagnostic output
allows the software to register any malfunction of the valve. The trigger switch signal is adapted to the
board logic voltage.

Basically, the handpiece detection is accomplished by a voltage measurement depending on an

appropriate resistor build in the handpiece. The voltage is looped via the AD Converter to software.

2.3.7 Stop and ventilation valve

Stop and ventilation valve can be controlled by the software via connector X9/X13. A driver with
diagnostic output supplies the valves.

2.3.8 Compressor
The compressor is energized by the smart driver IC4 with diagnostic output to the software. A NTC
limits the high inrush current of the motor.

2.3.9 Foot switch

For future expansion a connection of a food switch is provided to trigger the unit from external.

4.1 Introduction
Before performing any service action on the system, note the values of hand-held trigger counter, total
trigger counter and total operating hours for further use.

Most parts of the system are labelled with an identification number. This number contains the part
number (X), release (Y) and serial number (Z) of the part. The part numbers are consisting like shown:
XXXXX – YY – ZZZZ. If a replacement of a part with such a number is necessary, note the number of
the old and new part.

For accurate and fast spare part supply and return, a repair label should be attached to the old part
and a service report completed including:

- Serial number of the system

- Date of replacement
- Total operating hours at replacement
- Hand-held trigger counter at replacement
- Total trigger counter at replacement
- Part number and serial number of the old part
- Part number and serial number of the new part
- Name of the service technician

XXXXX – YY – ZZZZ. If a replacement of a part with such a number is necessary, note the number of
the old and new part.

For accurate and fast spare part supply and return, a repair label should be attached to the old part
and a service report completed including:

- Serial number of the system

- Date of replacement
- Total operating hours at replacement
- Handpiece trigger counter at replacement
- Total trigger counter at replacement
- Part number and serial number of the old part
- Part number and serial number of the new part
