1 Printed circuit boards

All boards contain electronic components which are sensitive to electrostatic
discharges. Static charges occur where people move. Electrostatic discharges
damage or destroy the components. In order to avoid unnecessary repair
costs, the following precautions should be observed.

Eliminate electric charges from your body by touching a grounding point, eg.
screw head, before you touch the components or boards. Always switch OP
100 power off prior to disconnecting of cables or removal of boards. If
possible hold the boards at their edge, only.

Replaced boards should be returned to the factory only in the original

shipping bag.

5 Tubehead alignment procedure

5 Tubehead alignment procedure

This chapter describes how to check and align the THA after replacement
without using x-ray film. A special OP 100 service tool (code 60424
Alignment Spike) is needed.

1 Fit the beam alignment tool on the secondary slot. Remove the sinus rest
from the chin rest support piece and fit the alignment spike to the sup-
port piece.
2 Remove the collimator if fitted.

3 Align the rotating unit perpendicular to the main support, i.e. when the
rotation microswitch detecting the cassette lifting position “clicks”.
4 With sw. 1.2.07 or higher Select Pr68 INS,EPS or with software 1.2.01-
1.2.06 Sr 75 EPS , maximum exposure values and make the exposure.
Note the position of the shadow of the alignment spike on the
fluorescent screen of the alignment tool. If no shadow is seen, move the
linear movement by turning the linear actuator shaft by hand until the
shadow of the spike is visible.
5 Turn the rotating unit 180 degrees and align it perpendicular to the main
support. Take care not to move the tubehead sideways on the rotating
unit. Make the exposure and note the position of the spike shadow.

63444-4AC Instrumentarium Imaging 25

5 Tubehead alignment procedure

6 If the position of the shadow on step 5 differs from the position on step
4, adjust the linear movement so that the shadow is on the center of
positions on steps 4 and 5. Repeat steps 3 through 5 until the shadow
does not move when the rotating unit is turned 180 degrees.

7 While keeping the rotating unit perpendicular to the main support, adjust
the tubehead sideways until the shadow is on the center of the alignment
tool. Turn rotating unit 180 degrees and check that the shadow is still on
the center. If it is not repeat steps 3 through 6.

When the spike shadow is on the center of the alignment tool on both sides,
tighten the tubehead mounting screws.

8 Turn the rotating unit parallel to the main support, i.e. the center rotation
microswitch “clicks”, taking care not to move the linear movement.
Make the exposure and note the position of the spike shadow on the

26 Instrumentarium Imaging 63444-4AC

5 Tubehead alignment procedure

alignment tool. If the shadow is not at the center of the alignment tool,
adjust the alignment spike sideways until the shadow is centered.

9 Turn the rotating unit perpendicular to the main support. Switch on

the positioning lights and verify that the mid-sagittal light hits the
center of the alignment spike. If not, adjust the light by bending the
light fixture sideways.
10 Remove the alignment spike and refit the sinus rest to the chin rest
base. Fit a bite block and adjust the sinus rest sideways until the
mid-sagittal light hits the center of the bite block rod.
11 Fit the collimator so that the slit is approximately vertical. Do not
tighten the fixing screws.
12 Adjust the collimator according to Installation Manual, Section 5.

6 Microswitches and position indicators

6 Microswitches and position indicators

There are 18 microswitches in OC100
models and 15 in OP 100 models to s/n
70231 and from s/n 70232 15
microswitches in OC100 models and 12 in
OP 100 models to detect the position of the
various movements of the equipment. Some
of the microswitches (S23,S24,S25) are
replaced with opto couplers in current
versions of OP 100.

All switches are wired to the CPU Board,

and microprocessor reads the status of the
switches every 10 ms. The name of the
switch is the same as the name of the
signal to the microprocessor. Open switch is
5 V, and closed switch is 0 V signal level
in CPU Board. Their operation can be
checked by using Service Program “Sr 74
IOC”.

6.1 Rotation movement

Movement is generated by using a stepping motor M3, gear assembly and a

drive wheel, which is forced against a friction surface of the rotation unit.
There are mechanical limiters to prevent full 360° rotation and cable twisting.

There are four position indicators for rotating unit. These microswitches are
located inside the main support. Rotation angle information comes from a
code disk, which is located on the rotation unit, under the main support.
Rotational position is indicated by four microswitches (S 11 to S 14) as
follows.

63444-4AC Instrumentarium Imaging 29

6 Microswitches and position indicators

The position is expressed in degrees from center position, where tubehead is

at it’s furthermost position from the column (=0 ). S14 is the innermost
microswitch (closest to the rotation axle) in main support and S11 is the
outermost switch. The switches code the rotating unit positions as follows (in
parenthesis is the input and LED associated with the signal in Sr 74 IOC):

6.2 Linear movement

Movement is generated by using a stepping motor, a linear actuator and a
linear plate. There are three position indicators for the linear movement of the
rotating unit. These microswitches are located inside the main support.
Notice that S 16 is mounted in mirror orientation compared to S 15 and S 17.

30 Instrumentarium Imaging 63444-4AC

6 Microswitches and position indicators

LINLIMSW

Two microswitches (S 17 and S 16) to indicate either end of the linear

movement. These limit switches are connected in parallel. S 17 is the
reference point to all imaging movements. If S 17 is moved or replaced, the
panoramic layer and cephalostat beam alignment must be verified and
adjusted if needed.

LINMIDSW

S 15 is for the mid position of the linear movement, also indicating front and
rear segments of the movement. It is used to set OP 100 rotating unit for
patient positioning (Programs 1 to 4 and 6 to 9) and it serves as a reference
point for TMJ pointer movements in TMJ imaging (Programs 6 to 9).

Linear movement position is indicated to CPU Board as follows in Sr74 IOC:

6.4 Panoramic cassette detection

There is an indicator for panoramic film
cassette. This optical sensor (D1) (or
microswitch S23 in old models) is located
inside the cassette holder, behind the
cassette carriage. When the cassette is
inserted the actuator on the cassette
carriage moves the cam away from the
optical fork, thus activating the
PANCASSW signal.

PANCASSW

Indicates the panoramic cassette: when signal is active (opto sensor D1 free
or microswitch S23 closed), cassette is in the cassette holder. Signal is
indicated by In 0 LED8 in service program Sr 74 Ioc, lit LED indicates the
presence of the cassette.

In the case of problem, check the wiring:

6.7 Vertical movement

Movement is generated by using a DC motor, gear assembly and pulleys.
Vertical carriage and Counter weight are connected to pulleys with steel
cables.

There are two position indicators for the vertical carriage movement. These
microswitches are located inside the rear support assembly, at the rear of the
column unit. The height of the vertical carriage is detected by two short
detent pieces located in the groove of the column. These pieces are adjusted
at the factory so that they will stop the carriage 10 - 20 mm before the
mechanical limits.

36 Instrumentarium Imaging 63444-4AC

6 Microswitches and position indicators

The height of the cassette holder can

be limited by lowering the cassette
holder to the half way up position.
When this feature is activated,
cassette holder is lowered when S4 is
actuated by the long detent piece
located in the right groove of the
column (looking from behind the
column). This piece is adjusted at the
factory so that the cassette holder
always stays below the height of the
column. This feature is activated by
user program “Pr 56 HLI” -> “on”.
Note that the longer detent piece is
also used to distinguish the
difference between upper and lower
limits.

ZLIMSW

One microswitch (S 5) to indicat eother end of the vertical carriage

movement.

ZMIDSW

One microswitch (S 4) to indicate cassette holder height limiting area of

vertical carriage movement, also indicating upper limit together with the
