Assignment (Individual)

GROUP 1

1. Summarize the film

- Wuhan is the capital of Central China's Hubei province. It's a commercial center divided by the
Yangtze and Han rivers. The city contains many lakes and parks, including expansive,
picturesque East lake. Nearby, the Hubei Provincial Museum displays relics from the Warring
States period, including the marquis Yi of Zeng's coffin and bronze musical bells from his 5th-
century B.C tomb. The Huanan seafood market is located in Jianghan District, Wuhan, Hubei,
China. The market gained media attention after being identifies as a possible point of origin of
COVID-19 and the resulting pandemic.

Covid-19 start when Wuhan Health Commission reported many cases of undermine pneumonia
around the city who had contact in Seafood market. Continuously, the pneumonia cases spread
around the city without a contact on the seafood market.

2. Give the 2 theories on the origin of the Corona Virus. Which is more reliable? Explain why?

COVID-19 conspiracy beliefs

- Most prevalent conspiracy beliefs. To tap into the idea that it is a harmless virus that receives
overblown attention for personal benefit of a few people (COVID-19 hoax) “The virus is
intentionally presented as dangerous in order to mislead the public”, “Experts intentionally
mislead us for their own benefit, even though the virus is not worse than a flu

COVID-19 related Conspiracy Theories and Pandemic Behavior

Conspiracy beliefs and a measure of general conspiracy mentality expected conspiracy beliefs
that COVID-19 is a hoax or its relevance exaggerated to be associated with a hesitancy to follow
official recommendations, but conspiracy beliefs stating that SARS-CoV2 was human made to
be associated with increased tendencies to engage in prepping behavior.

3. Is the Covid-19 virus genetically engineered? why & given some molecular proofs.

- Viruses can be genetically engineered to be used as vectors to deliver functional genes (or
gene inactivation) in gene therapy to treat genetically inherited diseases.Conspiracy theorists
suggest that the SARS-CoV-2 virus may have been genetically engineered by scientists to make
it spread more efficiently in humans. However, there is no basis for this claim, as studies have
proven that the virus is naturally evolved.
4. Connect the chemistry part in the film

- Medicinal chemistry efforts toward the development of antiviral agents against SARS‐CoV‐1,
MERS‐CoV, SARS‐CoV‐2, targeting biochemical events important for viral replication and its life
cycle. These targets include the spike glycoprotein and its host‐receptors for viral entry,
proteases that are essential for cleaving polyproteins to produce functional proteins, and RNA‐
dependent RNA polymerase for viral RNA replication. For the virus to spread, the information of
its structural and functional proteins must be replicated and packed into new virus particles.
Since the virus lacks the necessary infrastructure for this process, it is entirely dependent on its
host organism to translate its RNA into proteins and make more RNA copies. Chloroquine, it is a
medication primarily used to prevent and treat malaria in areas where malaria remains
sensitive to its effects. Certain types of malaria, resistant strains, and complicated cases
typically require different or additional medication, relatively safe, cheap, and effective
medication for the treatment of malaria and amebiasis. It also reasonably active in vitro against
SARS‐CoV‐1, MERS‐CoV, and SARS‐CoV‐2.

5. What are the environmental impacts of covid-19?

- The Covid-19 corona virus pandemic has resulted in global lockdowns, sharply curtailing
economic activity It is wholly novel to force significant proportions of the populations of the
major world economies to stay at home, and mostly indoors. It is also a giant economic and
environmental experiment. The world economies went from one state to another very quickly,
so it is plausible to argue that everything else remained constant. There has been a very
significant reduction in economic activity, very large falls in transport by air, road and railways,
and with these have come large falls in air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, as well as
reduced pressure on nature. Since the main effects in the first five months of the pandemic
have primarily fallen in the northern hemisphere, this coincides with the breeding season for
birds and many mammals and reptiles, and for plants too. The environmental impacts in the
short term are even harder to calculate, though some, like the fall in greenhouse gas emissions
and the improvements in air quality, are more instantaneously measurable. The impacts of less
effective wildlife and environmental regulation and enforcement, and the delays to many
current policy developments, will not be known for quite some time, and in some cases not for
several years.
