Assignment No. 3
Question No 1:
Mr. Omar has newly joined a well reputed organization as a Marketing Manager. He has 15 years’
experience of his field. He is establishing a new team for his upcoming venture. He wants to
recruit external candidates for the newly advertised posts. Mr. Khalid has been working in the
same organization as HR Manager for the last 05 years and wants to promote the internal
candidates.
Being a student of HRM, please provide your opinion that internal hiring is suitable or external
hiring is beneficial? Justify your opinion with 2 solid arguments.

Answer No 1:
As a student of Human Resource Management, I agree that both recruiting methods have pros
and cons; however, after reviewing this example, I believe that Mr. Omar should choose internal
hiring for his new enterprise. First of all, internal recruiting is preferable to external hiring
because it avoids the hassle and expense of new hires and saves time because there is no need
for orientation or a probationary period. They are already familiar with the company's culture
and systems, so they are ready to get to work on a project right away. Secondly, internal hirings
inspire all current workers and give them a sense of accomplishment. Their relationship with the
company is strengthened, which encourages them to put in more effort and dedication. As it is
often said, dedicated employees are a company's most dependable asset.

Question No 2:
Scenario 1: Ali always tries to be emotionally connected with his employees. He is an open-
minded person who believes in first listening to his followers, and then communicating and
inspiring trust and motivation in them. He has deep insight, not into his own self but others as
well and the prevalent situation.
Scenario 2: Umer is an emotionally detached person who believes in organizing on himself but
other and the resources around him. He is compliant with his organization in the achievement of
goals since he is considered to be an expert in his field who knows how things and procedure
work.
Required:
1. As per the given scenario, compare and contrast the professional characteristics of Ali and
Umer at least four characteristics each.
2. Analyze who is leader and who is a manager and explain three differences between
leadership and management.

Answer No 2:
1. Compare and Contrast of Ali’s and Umer's Professional Characteristics:
Communication: Ali supports his subordinates in a two-way communication process, that he not
only listens to their ideas but also trust and support them in executing their ideas. However,
Umer prefers to communicate in a one-way, inflexible manner, giving more weight to his ideas
and moral principles.
Emotional Intelligence: Ali appears to have a high emotional intelligence quotient since he
empathizes with others, values their feelings, and has a keen understanding of various issues.
Nevertheless, Umer has a low emotional intelligence. Although he may be fully aware of his own
standards, he does not respect or connect with the feelings of others, which indicates that he is
not emotionally capable of working with his subordinates.
Conscientiousness: Ali seems to be a reliable person because he values his employees more than
his own work. He is a motivator and helps others organize their affairs since he is people-
oriented. Umer would, nevertheless, be quite conscientious because he values his job and
position highly in his life. He excels at accomplishing organizational objectives, demonstrating
task orientation and a desire for quality work.
Competence: Ali has a sympathetic attitude, which would increase his competence because more
people would pay attention to him and the resulting increased productivity would have no
adverse effects. However, Umer's desire for quality and punctuality in work demonstrates his
competence; but his lack of concern for his employees would undermine his overall competence.

2. Analysis
Ali is the leader because of his traits and the manner in which he conducts business.
Umer, on the other hand, is the manager because, despite his high regard for the
organization and its objectives, he prefers to complete tasks on his own rather than
working with a team.
Differences:
▪ Leaders show employees how to perform their duties, whereas managers instruct them.
▪ Leaders establish strong ties and relationships with their employees while managers
prioritize the goals and objectives of the organization.
▪ Leaders encourage others to become better versions of themselves whereas managers
manage individuals to accomplish the company goal.
