Objective: This objective is to give student a background into general principles of law and the
legal system, especially as these principles apply to E-Commerce and the Contract Law.
Syllabus
I. Introduction to E-Commerce
Understanding E-commerce, Regulation of E-Contracts, Types of E-Contracts

II. Jurisdiction with respect to E-Commerce:


Traditional Personal Tests, Tests for Jurisdiction in Cyberspace, Application of the Personal
Jurisdiction Tests by the Indian Courts.

III. Recognition of E-Contracts


Legal Recognition under Model Law, IT Act and Electronic Forms of Certain Documents not
Recognised, UN Convention on the use of Electronic Communications in International Contracts

IV. Website ‘Terms and Conditions’

Typical Clause in a Website’s ‘Terms and Conditions’, Drafting Website’s ‘Terms and Conditions’.

V. Security in E Commerce Threats in Computer Systems:


Virus, Cyber Crime Network Security: Encryption, Protecting Web server with a Firewall,
Firewall and the Security Policy, Network Firewalls and Application Firewalls, Proxy Server.

VI. E- Governance:
Introduction to E-Governance, Provisions under IT Act, E-Governance Initiatives under the IT
Act, Maintenance of Service Levels in E-Governance.
