In Colombia we have a big problem with the

Deforestation; actually we are losing 170.000
hectares of jungle every year. The problem is
bigger when the people who protect those
forests are killed. Although this problem is
found throughout the country, the region
mainly affected is the Amazon.
The source of the problem is money because
the livestock and extensive farming is
profitable for few people and they destroy the
jungle with fire (or pay to someone to do it),

solution is to create taxes for different lands and
increase those taxes to discourage farmers to
hoard those jungles.
The other solution is increasing the prison
sentences for deforestation, but even if both
solutions were implemented, the restoration of
deforested areas will be a titanic task that it will
take a lot of time.

At the moment a lot of environmentalists have been killed because this is a huge business and a
lot of farmers do not want stop to do it.
