 16. Ropeway connecting Akkulam and Veli

There are various types of Ropeway systems in the world. Based on the capacity of the
system, ground terrain, and length of the system, the selection of the Ropeway system
can be made. Aerial ropeway is one such unique and ingenuous mechanical system,
which facilitates transportation of man and material over difficult and peculiar terrain
bringing about comparative ease and economy vis-à-vis other means of transport. The
proposal is to set up Ropeway connecting two popular picnic spots in the capital city, i.e.
Akkulam and Veli.

Location:

Akkulam is neighborhood of
Thiruvananthapuram city and is well known
picnic and backwater destination. Veli is also a
popular picnic destination in
Thiruvananthapuram city. Both these are
popular locations among picnic lovers. The
facilities for boating and other water sports and
recreational activities attract the visitors to
these locations. Both locations together can be
a full day picnic option.

Project Cost: The approximate cost for the ropeway project is Rs. 50 Crores
