THE INDIAN HIGH SCHOOL DUBAI

HEREDITY REVISION WORKSHEET 2019-20

GRADE: 10
1. Predict the genotypic and phenotypic outcome (offspring) of a cross between two
heterozygous tall pea plants.

2. In pea plants, yellow peas are dominant over green peas. Predict the genotypic and
phenotypic outcome of a cross between a plant heterozygous for yellow peas and a plant
homozygous for green peas.

3. Predict the phenotypic and genotypic outcome (offspring) of a cross between two plants
heterozygous for yellow peas.

4. In pea plants, round peas are dominant over wrinkled peas.

a) Predict the phenotypic and genotypic outcome (offspring) of a cross between a plant
homozygous for round peas and a plant homozygous for wrinkled peas.

b) If two heterozygous round peas are crossed, What would be the number of plants
with wrinkled seeds out of the 160 off springs produced?

5. The ability to curl your tongue up on the sides (T, tongue rolling) is dominant to not being
able to roll your tongue. A woman who can roll her tongue marries a man who cannot.
What are the genotypes of the mother, father, and child?

6. In fruit flies, the allele for normal wings (V) is dominant to the allele for short wings (v).
Suppose two fruit flies heterozygous for the trait are mated.
a) What is the male fruit fly’s genotype and the female fruit fly’s genotype?
b) What is the male fruit fly’s phenotype and the female fruit fly’s phenotype?
c) What will be the genotypic ratio of the generation?
d) What will be the phenotypic ratio of the generation?

7. One cat carries heterozygous, long-haired traits (Ss), and its mate carries homozygous
short-haired traits (ss). Use a Punnett square to determine the probability of their
offspring having long hair and the probability of their offspring having short hair.

8. A woman who is a carrier (heterozygous) for Cystic Fibrosis marries a man who has
Cystic Fibrosis, a recessive disease. What are the genotypes? What is the probability that
their children will have the disease? What is the probability that their children will not
have the disease? Show a Punnett square

9. Hornless (H) in cattle is dominant over horned (h). A homozygous hornless bull is mated
with a homozygous horned cow. What will be the genotype and phenotype of the first
generation?

10. Brown eyes in humans are dominant to blue eyes. A brown-eyed man, whose mother was
blue-eyed, marries a brown-eyed woman whose father had blue eyes. What is the
probability that this couple will have a blue-eyed child?

11. In Border Collies, black coat (B) is dominant to red coat (b). A breeder has a black male
that has won numerous awards. The breeder would like to use the dog for breeding if he
is purebred or BB. Answer the following questions A, B, C, and D.
a) If the black male is BB, what kind of gamete (sperm) can he produce?
b) If the red female is bb, what kind of gamete (eggs) can she produce?
c) If the black male is Bb, what kind(s) of gametes (sperm) can he produce?
d) If any of the puppies are red, what is the father's genotype?

12. The genotype of green stemmed tomato plants is denoted as GG and that of purple
stemmed tomato plants is denoted as gg. When these two are crossed with each other :
(a) what colour of stem would you expect in the F1 progeny?
(b) Give the percentage of purple stemmed plants if F1 plants are self pollinated.
(c)In what ratio would you find the genotypes GG and gg in the progeny? Draw flow
chart in support of your answer.

13. A female guinea pig is heterozygous for both fur color and coat texture is crossed with a
male that has smooth light fur . What possible offspring can they produce? Dark fur
color is dominant (D) and light fur (d) is recessive. Rough coat texture (R) is dominant,
while smooth coat (r) is recessive.

14. In human’s widow’s peak (W) is dominant over straight hairline (w). A heterozygous man
for this trait marries a woman who is also heterozygous. Give the genotypic and phenotypic
ratios of the offspring.

15. In rabbits, fur hair may be short or long. A cross between a homozygous short haired and
homozygous long haired rabbit produced bunnies all with short hair
a) Identify the dominant and recessive trait.
b) Work out the F1 cross .Specify the phenotype and genotype of F1 hybrid.
c) If two heterozygous rabbits are mated, What phenotypes are expected, and in what
ratios of the bunnies produced?

16. Suppose a new born baby was accidentally mixed up in the hospital. In an effort to
determine the parents of the baby, the blood types of the baby and two sets of parents were
determined.
Baby 1 had type O Mrs. Brown had type B Mr. Brown had type AB
Mrs. Smith had type B Mr. Smith had type B
a) Draw Punnett squares for each couple (you may need to do more than 1 square/
couple)
b) To which parents does baby belong? Why? Hint you may want to refer to your
Punnett square

17. Guinea pig having black colour when crossed with guinea pig having same colour produced
100 Off springs out of which 75 were black and 25 were white. Now find out.
a. What is the possible genotype of the guinea pig?
b. Which trait is dominant and which trait is recessive?
c. What is this cross called as and what is the ratio of F2 progeny obtained from these
cross?

18. A man has the genotype BbEE. He has brown hair and free earlobes. This man marries
a woman with the genotype bbee, who has black hair and attached earlobes
a) What are the different combinations of alleles produced in gametes by both ?
b) Identify the dominant and recessive trait in each character

19. In pea plants, yellow and round seeds are dominant over green and wrinked seeds. Identify
the expected genotype and phenotypes of off springs in the following crosses
A) RRYY x rryy B) RrYy x rryy

20. Purple flowers (P) are dominant to white flowers (p). Perform the following crosses. For
each cross, give the phenotype and genotype of all offspring.
