WIZARD – CREATE VITAL CHECKS

Exercise 08: Wizard: Create Vital Checks

Objective:

➢ By the end of this exercise, you will be able to run the Vital Checks Tests Wizard to generate
Completeness, Referential Integrity, Uniqueness and Nullness TestCases.

Why is this important?

➢ This will help you understand how the Wizard interface can be used to generate Vital Checks for
Database to Database.

Instructions:

1. Navigate to Data Integrity Testing>>Training Exercises and select the Data Integrity Folder

“2. Vital Checks”.

2. To launch the Wizard, select the DATA INTEGRITY menu from the Ribbon menu and click on
Database to Database, which is in the Vital Checks Test section. Alternatively, you can right-

click on the “2. Vital Checks” Folder and select Tosca Data Integrity>>Vital Checks: Database
to Database.

3. For Source Database, select the Upload DDL File RadioButton. Select MSSQL from the DB

Type: drop-down list.

4. Select File Tosca_Projects>>ToscaDIDemoFiles>>AW_DWH_On-Prem.DDL. This will load the

schema and tables into the Wizard.

5. Select the Filter Schema “Production” from the drop-down list. This will display 25\71 of the

tables. Click Next.

6. For Target Database, select the Upload DDL File RadioButton. Select MSSQL from the DB

Type: drop-down list.

7. Select File Tosca_Projects>>ToscaDIDemoFiles>>AW_DWH_Cloud.DDL. This will load the

schema and tables into the Wizard. This will display 71\71 of the tables. Click Next.

8. Within the drop-down menu Match Method, select Auto. This will match 25 tables for Source

and Target. Click Next.

9. Leave the five Templates as the default selection. ❑

10. Select the CheckBox Create ExecutionList and click Finish. The ExecutionList, TestSheet,

TestCase Template and Instances are created.

11. Check the “2. Vital Checks” ExecutionList for the tests created. You will see a total of 128 tests. ❑

Hints:
➢ As we are using DDL files for this training, these created tests will not run in this environment. In a
real environment, we can then enter the Connection for each Template, Re-instantiate the
Instances and then run the tests.
