A renowned sight on the continent is Niagara Falls, a cascade on the Niagara

River in northeastern North America. The falls are located on the border of New
York state and Ontario, Canada. The site's beauty and singularity as a physical
phenomenon have grown in popularity. Between the twin cities of Niagara Falls,
Ontario, and Niagara Falls, New York, Niagara Falls is located 69 kilometers (43
miles) southeast of Toronto and 27 kilometers (17 miles) northwest of Buffalo,
New York. When the Wisconsin glaciation, the previous ice age, ended, water
from the newly formed Great Lakes carved a path over and through the Niagara
Escarpment on its way to the Atlantic Ocean, creating Niagara Falls.
Horseshoe Falls, which spans the international boundary between the two nations,
is the largest of the three. It is also referred to as the Canadian Falls. [2] American
Falls and Bridal Veil Falls, which are both smaller, are located inside the United
States. With both islands located in New York, Bridal Veil Falls is separated from
Horseshoe Falls by Goat Island and from American Falls by Luna Island.
Niagara Falls is famed for its beauty and is a valuable source of hydroelectric
power. Balancing recreational, commercial, and industrial uses has been a
challenge for the stewards of the falls since the 19th century. Now one of the most
famous tourist attractions in Niagara Falls, the Maid of the Mist makes its maiden
voyage as a ferry, charging a fee to transport people, cargo, and mail across the
river.
