India achieved milestones with over 75,000 start-ups recognized so far
• Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has recognized
more than 75,000 startups which is a milestone coinciding with 75th year of
independence.
• Out of the total recognized startups, around 12% cater to IT services, 9% to
Healthcare and Life Sciences, 7% to education, 5% to professional and
commercial services and 5% to agriculture.
• An impressive, 7.46 lakh jobs have been created by the Indian startup ecosystem, so
far, which has been a 110% yearly increase over the last 6 years.
India adds 10 more wetlands designated as Ramsar sites
• India adds 10 more wetlands designated as Ramsar sites to make a total of 64
sites in the country.
• The 10 new sites include Six sites in Tamil Nadu and One each in Goa, Karnataka,
Madhya Pradesh and Odisha. Designation of these sites would help in the
conservation and management of wetlands and the wise use of their resources.
• India is one of the Contracting Parties to Ramsar Convention, signed in Ramsar, Iran,
in 1971. India signed it on 1st Feb 1982. So far 64 wetlands covering an area of
12,50,361 ha have been designated as Ramsar Sites of International Importance from
India, till date.

Goa CM announced to implement 100% NEP in higher education from next academic
year
• Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that the state government will
implement 100% of the syllabus in higher education institutes along the lines of
the National Education Policy.
• The implementation of NEP from college to university level has already started. From
the next academic year, a hundred percent of the syllabus in the higher education
institutes would be on lines with the NEP.
Defence Expo to be held in Gandhinagar from Oct 18 to 22
• Premier defence exhibition DefExpo-2022, which was postponed in March, will
now be held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat between October 18 and 22.
• DefExpo 2022 is in line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to achieve
self-reliance in defence and export of USD 5 billion by 2025.
• The 12th edition of DefExpo will be held in a three-venue format across, including
Helipad Exhibition Centre; inaugural event and seminars at Mahatma Mandir

Samudrayaan mission to send humans 6,000 meters deep in ocean
• The Indian government will soon start its mega ocean mission called
'Samudrayaan' to unlock the mysteries in the heart government of deep water.
• With this mission, India will be joining the elite club of nations such as the US,
Russia, Japan, France, and China to have niche technology and vehicles to carry out
subsea activities.
• Samudrayaan Mission is aimed to develop a self-propelled manned submersible to

• This is the fifth elephant reserve of Tamil Nadu. The forest department may be
eligible for additional financing through the centrally sponsored Project Elephant
after notifying the Agasthiyarmalai Elephant Reserve.

• Government of India has made revised the rules of Atal Pension Yojana
(APY), will be effective from from October 1, 2022.
• No citizen who is or has been an income taxpayer will not be eligible to join the
APY. If an income tax-payer joins the APY scheme on or after October 1, 2022, the
APY account will be liable to be closed.
• Currently, all citizens of India between the age of 18-40 years are eligible to join
the scheme, irrespective of their tax-paying status.
India to start supplying petrol with 20% ethanol from April 2023
• India will start supplying petrol with 20% ethanol at select petrol pumps from
April 2023.
• Oil minister Hardeep Puri said a fifth of petrol will be made up of ethanol by
2025.
• India achieved the target of supplying petrol mixed with 10 percent ethanol (10%
ethanol, 90% petrol) ahead of schedule in June 2022.

Defence forces, RBI & PM Office Most Trusted Institutions: survey by Ipsos India
• Defence forces, RBI and Prime Minister of India are the three most trusted
institutions in the country, according to a survey by Ipsos India.
• The Supreme Court of India came fourth and it was followed by the Central
Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
• The survey was conducted by Ipsos India and interviewed 2,950 adults including
females.
• Ranked first are the Defence Forces with at least 2 in 3 (65%) citizens reposing
their faith in them, ranked second was the RBI with 1 in 2 (50%) choosing them,
ranked third was the PM of India chosen by 49% of citizens polled, and rank fourth
was bagged by the Supreme Court of India (47%), rank fifth occupied by the CBI
(43%) and rank 6th by the Police (38%).
• This was followed by the Parliament (33%) ranked 7th, the media ranked 8th on
the list while placed 9th was the Election Commission of India (31%).

• Madhya Pradesh's tribal-dominated 'Mandla' region has become the first fully
"functionally literate" district in the country.
• The literacy rate in the district was 68 percent as per a survey in 2011, while
another report in 2020 pointed out that over 2.25 lakh people were not literate in the
district and most of them were tribals living in the forest areas.
• The district administration in 2020 launched the "Niraksharta Se Azadi Abhiyaan"
to make the residents functionally literate.

• The government has approved a proposal to give specific names to all the AIIMS,

list of names.
• All the AIIMS are known by its generic name and distinguished only by their location.

RBI sets deadline for card tokenization to October 1
• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released guidelines to ease the transition to
new norms on card-on-file (CoF) tokenization and licensing of payment
aggregators (PAs) in two separate notifications.
• While reiterating that with effect from October 1, no entity in the card transaction
chain, other than card issuers and card networks, shall store CoF data, the central
bank notified two interim measures.
• Other than the card issuer and the card network, the merchant or its PA involved in
settlement can save the CoF data for a maximum period of four days after the
transaction date or till the settlement date, whichever is earlier. This data shall be
used only for settlement of such transactions, and must be purged thereafter.
• For handling other post-transaction activities, acquiring banks can continue to
store CoF data until January 31, 2023.
Piramal Enterprises gets RBI nod to start NBFC business
• Piramal Enterprises received approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to
start non-banking finance company (NBFC) operations.
• The license is for initiating an NBFC not accepting public deposits.
• NBFCs are entities that provide bank-like financial services but don't hold a banking
license & are unregulated.
• Earlier, the company had acquired Dewan Housing Finance (DHFL) for Rs 34,250
crore.
GST collection for July 2022 second highest ever at Rs 1.49 lakh crore
• GST collection has risen 28 percent to touch the second-highest level of Rs 1.49
lakh crore in July on the back of economic recovery and steps taken to curb tax
evasion.
• Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection stood at Rs 1,16,393 crore in the same
month a year ago.
• GST, introduced in July 2017, touched a record high of Rs 1.68 lakh crore in April
2022.
Trade deficit at record USD 31 billion in July month
• India's merchandise trade deficit jumped to a new record high of USD 31.02 billion in
July.
• The previous record high was set in June when the trade deficit was USD 26.18 billion.
• The deficit in July 2021 was nearly one-third of last month's figure at USD 10.63
billion.
• As per the commerce ministry, merchandise imports stood at USD 66.26 billion in July
compared to USD 46.15 billion in the same month last year.

RBI imposed monetary penalty of Rs 32 lakhs on Indian Bank

• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a fine of Rs 32 lakh on Indian Bank
for breach of directions on classification & reporting of frauds.
• Additionally, The RBI has imposed a penalty of Rs 82 lakh on Bengaluru-based
Jupiter Capital Private Ltd, for breach of norms on submission of credit information.
RBI imposed Rs 2.33 crore monetary penalty on Spandana Sphoorty Financial Ltd
• Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 2.33 crore on
Hyderabad based Spandana Sphoorty Financial Limited for its failure to adhere to
pricing of credit guidelines for Non-Banking Financial Company - Micro Finance
Institutions (NBFC-MFIs).
• The penalty has been imposed in exercise of powers vested in RBI under the
provisions of the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934.
American Express launched Global Pay, cross border payments platform
• American Express has launched its cross-border payments platform for small to
medium-sized businesses named Global Pay.
• It will work as a digital solution that will let U.S. businesses make secure domestic
and international B2B payments.
• In addition to this, the eligible customers can earn rewards points on foreign
exchange payments.
• Global Pay is available to all eligible American Express Small Business Card Members
in the U.S.
SBI formalized policy to finance makers of lab-grown diamonds
• State of Bank of India (SBI) is the first Indian lender to frame a policy to fund
makers of lab-grown diamonds which come across as replicas of the natural stones.
• The bank's operational guidelines for financing man-made diamond houses include
the standard prudential practices like treating non-fund limits at part with funded
limits.
• Lab grown diamonds are the replicas of natural stones.
EPFOs' Rs 1.59 lakh crore investment in ETFs rises to Rs 2.26 lakh crore
• EPFO has invested Rs 1,59,299.46 crore in Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) till
March 2022 and its national market value of these investments was Rs 2,26,919.18
crore.
• EPFO has been investing in ETFs since August 2015. Initially, the body decided to
invest 5% of its investible deposits in stock markets.
• Later, the proportion was increased to 10% in 2016-17 and 15% 2017-18 and
onwards.
WPI inflation eases to 13.93 percent in July 2022
• India’s wholesale inflation in July eased sequentially to 13.93 percent as

vegetables, milk and fuel became cheaper, but remained in double digits for the
16th month.
• Wholesale Price Index-based (WPI) inflation was 15.18 percent last month and at a
record high of 16.63 per cent in May. It was 11.57 per cent in July 2021.
• Inflation in food articles basket in July came in at 10.77 percent, meanwhile, the
inflation in the manufacturing goods segment declined by 0.42 percent to 8.16
percent.
RBI canceled the license of Rupee Co-operative Bank, Pune
• RBI has canceled the license of Rupee Co-operative Bank Ltd, Pune will be
effective after six weeks (September 22, 2022).
• Reason- The bank is unable to pay its present depositors in full (Capital
inadequacy).
• It does not comply with the provisions of Section 11(1) and Section 22 (3) (d) with
Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
CPI-based Retail Inflation declined to 6.71% in July 2022
• Retail inflation, based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI), eased to 6.71% in July
2022 as compared to 7.01% in preceding month, as per the Ministry of Statistics and
Programme Implementation data
• Inflation eased mainly due to easing prices in the Food & Beverages section.
However, the retail inflation level remains above the mandated level of 4% with
a margin of 2% on either side.

SBI launched Utsav fixed deposit scheme
• On the occasion of the nation's 76th year of Independence celebrated as Azadi Ka

Amrit Mahotsav, the largest lender in the nation, State Bank of India (SBI),
introduced a unique term deposit programme called "Utsav Deposit."
• This fixed deposit scheme has higher interest rates and is only available for a
limited time.
• In the Utsav Fixed Deposit Scheme, SBI is offering an interest rate of 6.10% per
annum on fixed deposits with a tenure of 1000 days. And senior citizens will be
eligible to get an additional interest rate of 0.50% over and above the regular rate.
SBI launched its first dedicated branch to support start-ups
• The country’s largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) has launched its first branch
dedicated to start-ups in Koramangala, Bengaluru.
• The branch will provide services ranging from the stage of formation of start-ups to
Initial Public Offerings and Follow-on Public Offerings.
Bank of Baroda introduced a new deposit scheme
• Bank of Baroda (BoB) has launched the 'Baroda Tiranga Deposit Scheme', a
special retail term deposit product that offers interest rates of 5.75% for 444 days
and 6% for 555 days.
• This scheme is applicable on retail deposits below Rs 2 crore and remains in force till
December 31, 2022.
• Senior citizens will earn an additional interest rate of 0.50%, while non-callable
deposits will get 0.15% extra.
Karnataka Bank launched new Term Deposit Scheme named KBL Amrit Samriddhi
• Karnataka Bank has launched a new Term Deposit Scheme named KBL Amrit
Samriddhi under Abhyudaya Cash Certificate (ACC) and Fixed Deposit for a tenure of
75 weeks (525 days).
• The interest rate for this Deposit Scheme is 6.10% per annum.
• With the new product, KBL Amrit Samriddhi, the bank has extended the benefit of
increase in the interest rates to customers.
HDFC Bank opens first all-women branch in north Kerala region
• HDFC has opened its first all-women branch with four women bankers in the
north Kerala region in Kozhikode.
• The branch will have 4 women bankers.
• As on March 31, 2022, women constituted 21.7 percent of the workforce and the
target is to increase it to 25 percent by 2025.
HDFC Bank launched a new campaign 'Vigil Aunty '
• HDFC Bank has launched a new campaign titled ‘Vigil Aunty’.
• It aims to encourage people across the country to practice safe banking habits.
• This will complement the bank’s ‘Mooh Band Rakho’ campaign which urges people

RBI canceled license of Deccan Urban Co-operative Bank
• RBI has canceled the license of Deccan Urban Co-operative Bank, Karnataka as the
bank does not have adequate capital & earning prospects.
• As per the data submitted by the bank, more than 99 percent of the depositors are
entitled to receive the full amount of their deposits from Deposit Insurance and
Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC).
• In its present financial position, the bank would be unable to pay its depositors in full.
Rajasthan with highest share in cost of projects approved by banks: RBI
• An RBI article has revealed Rajasthan has accounted for the highest share in the
total cost of projects sanctioned by banks and financial institutions in FY22.
• The state has retained the top position for two consecutive years.
• Uttar Pradesh at the second position followed by Gujarat.
• The article is titled 'Private Corporate Investment: Growth in 2021-22 and

SEBI joined RBI's account aggregator framework
• Capital markets regulator SEBI joined the account aggregator framework, a

move that will give a boost to the RBI-regulated financial-data sharing system.
• Under the framework, Financial Information Providers (FIPs) in the securities market,
like depositories and asset management companies (AMCs) -- through their Registrar
and Transfer Agents or RTAs -- will provide financial information pertaining to
securities markets to the customers and consented Financial Information Users (FIUs)
through any of the account aggregators registered with the Reserve Bank of India
(RBI).
• The move will allow customers to share information about their mutual fund and
stock holdings with financial service providers.
PNB launched Pre-Qualified Credit Card facility
• Punjab National Bank (PNB) has launched its pre-qualified credit card which also
includes insurance coverage.
• It has also introduced a new facility of overdraft against fixed deposit on PNB One in
a few clicks and a single OTP (one-time password).
• This card facility will be available for salary account customers and they will be able to
apply through PNB One or the website.
RBI imposed restrictions on Thodupuzha Urban Co-operative Bank
• The Reserve Bank of India has imposed certain restrictions on Kerala-based,

Thodupuzha Urban Co-operative Bank for a period of six months.
• RBI has banned the bank from granting or renewing loans and advances and making
any investments.
Bank credit growth accelerated to 14.2% in June quarter: RBI data
• RBI released the 'Quarterly Statistics on Deposits and Credit of SCBs for June
2022.
• Bank credit growth accelerated to 14.2 percent in the quarter ended June 2022
from 6 percent in the same period of the previous year.
• In the quarter that ended March 2022, bank credit had expanded by 10.8 percent.

ISRO launched India’s 1st virtual space museum named SPARK
• ISRO Chairman S Somanath has launched the India's first virtual space
museum 'SPARK' for public use to showcase the digital content related to
different ISRO missions in an interactive manner.
• SPARK can be accessed through the official website of ISRO or at
https://spacepark.isro.gov.in.
• Presently, the space organisation has also launched an application, the beta
version of SPARK on their website.
HAL delivered Crew Module Fairing to ISRO for Gaganyaan
• The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has handed over the Crew Module
Fairing (CMF) & High-altitude escape motor Thrust-transfer Structure
(HTS) to the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
• The two big components of the Gaganyaan mission were handed over to the
Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre.
• The Gaganyaan mission, which was set to conduct the maiden uncrewed mission
this year, has been pushed to 2023 as Isro continues to perfect the systems and
has said that it will not take any chances, since this is the first time it is
attempting to send humans into space from India.

• Bharat Biotech has completed clinical development for phase III trials and
booster doses for BBV154 intranasal Covid vaccine.
• The adenoviral intranasal vaccine BBV154 is the first of its kind Covid-19 vaccine
to undergo human trials in India. “BBV154 has proven to be safe, well-
tolerated and immunogenic in subjects in controlled clinical trials.
• BBV154 is stable at 2-8°C for easy storage and distribution.
India's first indigenous monkeypox test kit launched
• The first indigenously-developed RT-PCR kit for testing monkeypox was

launched at the Andhra Pradesh Medtech Zone (AMTZ).
• Developed by Transasia Bio-Medicals, the kit was unveiled by Principal
Scientific Adviser to the Centre Ajay Kumar Sood.
• The Transasia-Erba monkeypox RT-PCR kit is highly sensitive, but an easy-to-use
test with a uniquely formulated primer and probe for enhanced accuracy.
India's 1st space observatory to come up in Uttarakhand
• India's first commercial space situational awareness observatory will be set

up in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand by Digantara, a space sector start-
up.
• It will track objects as small as 10 cm in size orbiting the earth.
• The space situational awareness (SSA) observatory will help India track any
activity in space including that of space debris and military satellites hovering
over the region.
