LEARNING TASK/ACTIVITY WEEK 6
1. Prepare a chart showing the positive and negative values of the Filipinos.
POSITIVE VALUES
A. Filipinos are hospitable- Filipinos are
known for having the warmest welcomes
to visitors, they even offer food and
drinks, and actually, sometimes they also
give us food when we are about to go
home or what we call "Pabaon".
Example: When I visited my classmate,
her mother welcomed me by serving me
bibingka and juice, and also asked me to
takeout some food,
B. Filipinos are very resilient- One of the
good traits Filipinos have is positivity or
resilience. It means that despite facing
catastrophe or any calamity, we can still
smile and laugh.
Example: Typhoon victims are asking
for help and donations because they are
already suffering from hunger. Despite
that, they are still showing us their wide
and innocent smile, saying that " We can
do this, just help us."
C. Filipinos are very religious- Filipinos
have a strong relationship with God.
Every time they want to thank for
something they call God, when they are
sorry for something they call God, when
they need something they ask God, in
everything they trust God.
Example: We pray in the morning, when
we are going to eat, at night, at every
prayer meeting and at mass.
D. Filipinos help one another-
Filipinos truly care for one another,
especially when someone is in need of
help, is experiencing heartbreak, or is
experiencing difficulties.
Example: Brigada Eskwela. The school
needs our help in sweeping and cutting
grass, so as a youth or an alumni, there is
the willingness to join the program since
it will benefit all the students, parents,
teachers, and many more.
NEGATIVE VALUES
A. Ningas-Kugon- Maybe I can easily describe
this by this term, "Sa una lang magaling."
We put effort when we start to do our work,
but suddenly when laziness hits us, we just
leave our work unfinished.
Example: As students, we usually start
reviewing by writing down those important
details, but when we get bored, we just read
the module once and stop writing.
B. Filipino Time- It is saying 1:00pm but
going at 2:00pm. This is attending meeting
later than the agreed time.
Example: When there is a birthday
celebration, especially a debut, and then the
call time is 4:00 pm, when you saw the time
on the invitation, you just said "5:00pm ako
pupunta kasi Filipino time, 6:00pm din
naman yan magstart," so instead they can
start the program, they wait for you.
C. Gossiping: One of the biggest issues now
here in the Philippines is the "Marites", or
the gossipers. A message from one source to
another, and to another, and to another, and
many more.
Example: If your friend tells you her secret,
then you also tell your friend, then your
friend tells it to her friends too, and then your
friend’ secret becomes public news. Always
remember there is always "dagdag" and
"bawas" in the statement we are gossiping
about that may affect our friend.
D. Corruption: One of the issues that our
government is now trying to resolve is
corruption in our country. It really
affects the people in the Philippines that
instead of giving back those funds to
every individual, some officials put that
money into their own pocket. The budget
for public roads becomes the budget for
private meals; the budget for public
 markets becomes the budget for a private
new car or new house and lot.

2. Can we transform the negative values to positive one? Explain your answer.

Yes, we can transform the negative values into positive ones. Actually, there are no negative
values if we just do the right thing to do, because we humans decide on what will be good for us
and what will harm us. Those negative values, like ningas-kugon, Filipino time, corruption, and
gossiping, are just the values for those people who want to have those values, but if we want to
make a better choice, we will choose to transform those negative values into positive ones. For
example, ningas-kugon, instead of leaving work unfinished, why would you just rest for a while
then continue it again? At that Filipino time, instead of thinking that the program will start later
than the called time, just think that if you go earlier you can choose more comfortable seats and
enjoy the program. Instead of public funds in your pocket, consider how your children, families,
and friends will benefit if you build some infrastructure. Then instead of gossiping about others'
secrets, why would you not gossip about the word of God from the bible (Di’ba magandang balita
ang kinalat mo) atleast you will not hurt someones feelings. Doing something is always a choice,
negative values will always be our choice to follow or to transform it to positive one.
