GENE IN NCBI

 A gene is the basic physical and functional unit of heredity. Genes are made
up of DNA. Some genes act as instructions to make molecules called proteins.
However, many genes do not code for proteins. In humans, genes vary in size
from a few hundred DNA bases to more than 2 million bases

 Gene integrates information from a wide range of species. A record may

include nomenclature, Reference Sequences (RefSeqs), maps, pathways,
variations, phenotypes, and links to genome-, phenotype-, and locus-specific
resources worldwide.
GENE IN NCBI
 The Gene database is a resource of the National Center for Biotechnology
Information (NCBI) that centralizes gene-related information into
individual records (1). Many different types of gene-specific data are
connected to the record including sequence accessions, nomenclature,
genomic location and organization, publications, gene products and their
attributes, expression, interactions, pathways, homology, variation and its
phenotypic consequences and useful links to databases both internal and
external to NCBI.

PUBMED
 PubMed is a free search engine accessing primarily the MEDLINE database of
references and abstracts on sciences and biomedical topics.

 The PubMed system was offered free to the public in 1997.

 The United States National Library of Medicine (NLM) the National Institutes of
Health maintains the part of the Entrez system of information retrieval.

 PMID is the unique identifier number used in PubMed system.

 They are assigned to each article record when it enters the PubMed system.

 The PMID # is always found at the end of a PubMed citation.

PUBMED CENTRAL (PMC)
 PubMed Central (PMC) is a free digital system that archives publicly accessible
full-text scholarly articles that have been published within the biomedical and life
sciences journal literature.
 A "PubMed Mobile" option, providing access to a mobile friendly, simplified
PubMed version, is also available.
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
PUBMED AND PUBMED CENTRAL?

 PubMed is a database of citations and abstracts.

 PMC is an electronic archive of full-text journal articles, offering
free access to its contents.
CITATION
 Each citation gives you the basic information about a specific article, book, or other

resource, such as: author(s) names, article title, book title, journal title, date of publication,

page numbers, etc. It includes the information someone would need to find the item and is

used to create the list of references or bibliography.
