Assessment 2 - Essay 35% COM1104

Submission due date/time: This assessment is comprised of the following 2 parts:

3.a Week 6 - Draft & Outline (15%)

3.b Week 10 - Final essay (20%)

Submission mode: Submit to Turnitin – link on the ACBT Moodle

An essay of 1200 - 1500 words. You must choose one topic from the two offered. You must also find
a minimum of FOUR credible sources ( a minimum of TWO journal articles & TWO other credible
sources) of your own. These can be chosen from journal articles, government reports, credible
websites, books, or book chapters. Your final essay must be fully referenced (in-text and end-text)
in the APA format, as per the ACBT Referencing Guide.

You must have no more than 10% of the word-count as direct quotations. No limit on the amount
of paraphrasing.

1. Evaluate the existing regulations for the use of mobile phones and other
technology while driving. Should the regulations be stricter and what else should
be added to those rules to make the driving process safer?

Draft & Outline submission instructions

The draft and Outline is to be typed up on the template as a word document and submitted via the
Turnitin link on Moodle. In your submission, you must include the following:

Complete and submit the document “Essay Draft Template” which includes the following:

 An outline for all paragraphs including in-text citations


 End-text references

There is no word-count requirement for this assignment. However, please keep in mind the word
count limit of the final essay to decide on the length of your first two body paragraphs and the
amount of detail to include in the rest of your body paragraphs.

Final essay submission

The final essay must be written in full essay structure following the conventions learnt in class.

A. Revise the first two body paragraphs based on lecturer feedback.


B. Develop the outline of the remaining body paragraphs into full paragraphs.
a. You can make any changes, minor or major, in the body paragraphs drafted and outlined in
the previous submission.
b. Organise / reorganise your paragraphs however suits you best.
C. Add an introduction and a conclusion paragraph.
D. Make any necessary corrections in your in-text and end-text references.

No contents page or headings should be included for this essay. The essay must be formatted
following the ACBT Health Sciences guidelines, and the PAC1100H presentation and submission
guidelines, found in the Assessment Booklet on Moodle. Include a title page and not the ACBT
electronic cover page. The essay must also be fully referenced (in-text and end-text) in the APA 7th
format, as per the ACBT Referencing Guide.

Length 800 – 1200 words

Important: In order to ensure students are submitting their own work, if the lecturer believes that there is a
disparity between the writing or knowledge presented in assessments (compared to in-class activities or other
examples of student work), the lecturer is expected to confirm that the student actually did the work. The
lecturer may ask the student to define terms, explain concepts or give examples relating to the assessment.
Students who refuse to engage in this process risk being awarded zero for the assessment.
