PREPARE 2D SKETCH OF WORKSHOP DRAWING

1.0 Brief Introduction/Rational:
➢ Solid modeling (or solid modelling) is a consistent set of principles for mathematical and computer
modeling of three-dimensional shapes (solids). Solid modeling is distinguished from related areas
of geometric modeling and computer graphics, such as 3D modeling, by its emphasis on physical
fidelity. Together, the principles of geometric and solid modeling form the foundation of 3D-computer-
aided design and in general support the creation, exchange, visualization, animation, interrogation, and
annotation of digital models of physical objects.

2.0 Aim of the Micro-Project:

➢ To collect two drawings from workshop & using sketches prepare 2D drawing of it.

3.0 Intended Course Outcomes:

➢ C506.1: - Prepare 2D drawings using sketcher workbench of any parametric CAD software.
➢ C506.2: - Generate 3D solid models from 2D sketches using part work bench of any parametric CAD
software.

4.0 Literature Review:

➢ Solid modeling is the most advanced method of geometric modeling in three dimensions. Solid
modeling is the representation of the solid parts of the object on your computer. The typical geometric
model is made up of wire frames that show the object in the form of wires. This wire frame structure
can be two dimensional, two and half dimensional or three dimensional. Providing surface
representation to the wire three dimensional views of geometric models makes the object appear solid
on the computer screen and this is what is called as solid modeling.

5.0 Proposed Methodology:

• Discuss the topic with the guide and teammates for best suitable ideas and solutions.
• Finalized the suitable ideas and divide work between the team members.
• Collect data about the given topic and search for reasonable information for completion of the given
project.
• Finalized the prepared report.
• Collect the data for preparation of the report for the given topic.
• Present the report made to the guide/teacher
• Confirm all the requirements of the completion of project.
• Submit the report to the respective teacher/guide

➢ How to make a 2D drawing in SOLIDWORKS
1. If the part/assembly is open, select Make Drawing from Part/Assembly in the New flyout menu. Or,
to start a new drawing, select the file new icon to bring up the New SOLIDWORKS
document window.
2. Select Drawing to use a default template.
3. Click OK.
4. Select a sheet size and format.
5. Select a standard view orientation.
6. Begin a SOLIDWORKS 2D drawing.

➢ How to change scale in a SOLIDWORKS drawing

For the simplest way to change the scale in an existing drawing sheet, follow these steps:
1. Select Sheet Scale in the status bar.
2. Choose a scale.

➢ How to link drawings to parts in SOLIDWORKS

To add a model to the drawing:
1. Select the View palette in the task pane.
2. Browse to the part you’d like to add to your drawing.

➢ To change the link of an existing view:

1. Right click the view.
2. Select Replace Model.
3. Choose the correct part or assembly.

➢ How to export 2D drawings from SOLIDWORKS

To export SOLIDWORKS 2D drawings, follow these steps:
1. Select File > Save As.
2. In the dialog box, select either the PDF, DXF, or DWG file type.
3. In the Save As dialog box, enter the filename and click Save.

PART B
8.0 Skill Developed / Learning Out of This Micro-Project:
➢ Rapid technological change demands a greater intensity of knowledge and skills in producing, applying and
diffusing technologies. Technological change, particularly the development of information and
communication technology (ICT), is occurring at unprecedented speed, requiring students to acquire and
more complex, cognitive skills. There are many qualities and skills an individual needs to become an
effective engineer and to have a successful career. We should focus on developing a variety of skills ln
preparation for an engineering career, including:
➢ Knowledge of the core subject: It includes the knowledge in your field of study. An awareness of the latest
technological developments in your own field of study.
➢ Application of the knowledge: A good knowledge on any subject does not warrant the ability to apply it to
solve real-time problems.
