MAIN POINT IN CLARITY GRADING :-
Accurate clarity grading as with other grading steps must be done with the diamond
"loose" (not set into any mounting). Inclusions are often difficult to see from the
crown side of the diamond, and may be concealed by the setting. Five factors
determine the overall effects of characteristics on a clarity grade which are as follow….

To see very very minute inclusion and
blemishes that are not possible to see with
a 10x magnification, a specially designed
gem microscope is used
It is specially used to see VVS1 and VVS2
inclusions such as pinpoints , needles and
tiny feathers.
It is also used to see blemishes in IF stone
such as nick , pits , abrasions , polish , lines
etc.
FLAWLESS (FL)

These diamond are free of any inclusions or blemishes,

They may have extra facets which are not visible from face-
up view.
They may have internal graining that is not reflective
white, colored or affecting transparency.
INTERNALLY FLAWLESS (if)

“IF” diamond shows only significant blemishes and no

inclusion.
It may have blemishes like nick , scratch , abrasion ,
natural , extra facet etc.
They don’t have indented naturals.
Very very slightLY incluDED
vvS1 + vvs2

VVS diamonds have minute inclusions that are difficult

for a skilled grader to see under 10x magnification.
The VVS category is divided into two grades;
VVS1 denotes a higher clarity grade than VVS2.
Pinpoints , needles and very very minute feathers set the
grade at VVS.
VVS1

A pinpoint (PP1) located on the side which is extremely difficult to see

sets VVS1 grade. Only inclusion in the entire stone.
VVS1

A pinpoint (PP1) on the table and a natural open(NT) on the side,

invisible from face-up view, sets VVS1 grade.
VVS2

This stone has a minute black inclusion (BPP) on the table along with a
pinpoint(PP1) which is very difficult to see sets VVS2 grade
VVS2

A very small crystal that looks like a tiny dot (PP1) on the table which
is very difficult to see sets VVS2 grade
Very slightLY incluDED
vS1 + vs2

VS diamonds have minor inclusions that are difficult to

somewhat easy for a trained grader to see when viewed under 10x
magnification.
The VS category is divided into two grades; VS1 denotes a higher
clarity grade than VS2.
Typically the inclusions in VS diamonds are invisible without
magnification, however infrequently some VS2 inclusions may
still be visible.
VS1

A clean piece but a black inclusion (B1) on the table and a

small feather (FR1) on the side sets VS1 grade
VS1

A hair like transparent feather(FR1) small sized, on the side-sets VS1

grade . Pinpoint on the table is a part of feather
VS1

A tiny crystal(CRL1) and light black inclusions(BPP) on the table

sets VS1 grade
VS1

Tiny crystal(CRL1) on the side along with a black pinpoint (BPP) on

the both table and side sets VS1 grade
VS2

Easily visible black inclusion (B1) on table and minor feather

near girdle makes it a VS2
VS2

Dark easily visible black inclusion (B1) on the table makes it fall into
vs2 grade.
VS2

BPP

Easily visible crystal(CRL1) on the side with hardly visible, black

inclusion(BPP) on side lowers it to VS2 grade
VS2

A crystal is (CRL1) in the centre along with black pinpoints(BPP) too

in the centre gives it a VS2
VS2

A belt of cloudy region (CLD1) on the tale affects luster

and makes it VS2 diamond
VS2

Clean table but feather (FR1) near girdle and black inclusion
(B1) on side lowers the piece to VS2.
VS2

Easily seen feather (FR1) on the table and a tiny feather(FR1) in

crown region makes it VS2
feather
VS2

Spreaded inclusion (SPR1) on the table and tiny feather in the crown
with little black inclusion(BPP) on the table makes it VS2
VS2

An eye-strucking black inclusion(B2) on the table with reflection on

the side has sets VS2 grade .such diamonds are very very rare.
slightLY inCLUDED
Si1 + si2

SI diamonds have noticeable inclusions that are easy to

very easy for a trained grader to see when viewed under
10x magnification.
The SI category is divided into two grades; SI1 denotes a
higher clarity grade than SI2.
These may or may not be noticeable to the naked eye. .
SI1

Large region of noticeable spreaded inclusion (SPR1) on both table and

side makes it SI1 stone . Blck pinpoints (BPP) could not seen
SI1

Eye-strucking black inclusion(B2) covering centre of table and slightly

srpeaded on table gives it SI1.
SI1

A water –like long but thick and long feather in the crown(side) gives
SI1 grade. Such feathers are difficult to see and pieces are termed as
“ EYE CLEAN”
SI1

A crystal(CRL2) in the table, spreaded(SPR1) on the side with black

pinpoint at different places gives it SI1
SI1

Medium sized feather(FR1) near tik along with black spreaded inclusion
on table, make it SI1.
SI1

Noticable black inclusion (B1) on table along with spreaded inclusion set
SI1 grade
SI1

Spreaded area near teak (SPR1) and a crystal(CRL1) on the side with
noticeable black inclusion (B1) in the crystal sets SI1 grade
SI2

A large and easy to see thick feather (FR2) on table make this diamond
SI2. It has eye- visible feather.
SI2

Thick and seen with naked eye, these feather(FR2) located on side set
SI2 grade. More feathers have set the grade.
SI2

Large and visible with naked eye black inclusion (B2) on the table with a
thin feather set SI2 grade
SI2
REFLECTION

An eye-strucking crystal (CRL2) with visible black inclusion (B1) on the

table set SI2 grade . Reflection in crown is seen
SI2

Spreaded (SPR2) covering large area on the side with black

inclusion (B1) sets SI2 grade.
SI2

A cloud inclusion (CLD1) in the stone both table and side , affects luster
to a great extent and thus set SI2 grade
SI2

Long thread like spreaded (SPR1) inclusions reaching from 1 end to the
other with small black inclusion(B1) on table set SI2 grade.
SI2

A combination of crystal(CRL1) on the table and a long feather (FR1) on

side sets SI2 grade
SI2

A combination of light spreaded (SPR1) on table and thick feathers

(FR1) on side have set SI2 grade. Light black pinpoint (BPP) seen.
SI2

Heavy burn like feather (FR2) on table and a tiny one near girdle with
big black inclusion (B1) set SI2 grade.

“GIA GRADE I1 = IN SRK SYSTEM SI3”

I diamonds have obvious inclusions that are clearly visible to a
trained grader under 10x magnification..
Included diamonds have inclusions that are usually visible
without magnification or have inclusions that threaten the
durability of the stone. The I category is divided into two grades;
I1 denotes a higher clarity grade than I2, Inclusions in I1
diamonds often are seen to the unaided eye. I2 inclusions are
easily seen,
as well as having inclusions that are often likely to threaten the
structure of the diamond
I1

Obvious black inclusion (B2) seen without magnification with tiny

spreaded (SPR1) inclusion on table set I1 grade
I1

Obvious feather affecting stones durability on side with spreaded (SPR1)

all over the diamond set I1 grade.
I1

A huge crystal (CRL2) obvious on the table along with spreaded (SPR2)
heavy on side set grade as I1.
I1

Obvious thread like heavy spreaded (SPR2) inclusion all over the stone
with black inclusions set I1 grade
I1

Big black inclusion (B1) on the table and dark bigger black inclusion
(B2) obvious on side with feathers lower grade to I1.
I1

Combination of obvious feather (FR1) on table along with long

Spreaded covering major part of the crown set I1 grade. Light black
inclusion seen
I1

Eye strucking crystal (CRL2) on the table with long feathers on side , big
black inclusion (B1) in the centre & side set I1 grade.
