There are 1.35 million reported fatalities due to traffic.

Road traffic accidents are now the eighth biggest cause of death around the world, resulting for more
deaths each year than the 1.5 million that were reported in 2000. In addition, road traffic accidents have
been the main cause of death for children and people between the ages of 5 and 29. The most frequent
causes of traffic accidents include human errors like speeding, driving while drunk or high on drugs like
alcohol, not using safety devices like seatbelts and child restraints, and driving while preoccupied.
Conversely, risk elements that have an impact on road safety include things like dangerous road
infrastructure, dangerous vehicles, insufficient post-crash care, and poor road traffic law enforcement.

In the Philippines' Metro Manila, where there were 48 percent of all vehicle-related accidents on the
roads in 2021, there were car accidents. Motorcycle collisions came next, making up about 24 percent of
all vehicle collisions in the region.
