The way to broaden horizons

No need to hate, just crush them in debate.
Small steps–now taking a bigger leap -ADITI and SALONI
Our focus this semester:

One common issue transitioning to higher grades

was pressure. Whether it was the academic
pressure for excellence in performance, the
pressure (unintentionally/intentionally) bestowed
SMALL STEPS- aditi Gupta and saloni choubey

upon children to live upon to a higher standard or

the pressure of their peers to conform to a certain
social standard, it’s an issue for everyone. So this
is the central topic of focus of our club this
semester.
Objective & Activities:

To prevent being overwhelmed with the pressures

of growing up that will inevitably befall you, it’s a
good practice to set healthy boundaries early on.
This is one major skill we’ll focus on teaching to
our club members, so that by the end of it, you’ll
be able to set healthy boundaries for yourselves
and prevent adding/harbouring stress and anxiety
on top of all the work you’re going to have to do
this year.

We’ll try to achieve this through games,

discussions, and a series of terrible jokes which
likely won’t elicit much laughter. If we haven’t
sold you yet…our club = 0 work & 70 minutes of
hopefully-not-awkward-but-not-guaranteed-fun.

a part of Club Afflatus! Join us for an amazing adventure
where we explore topics from Product Design and
Physics in an interdisciplinary and extremely interactive
fashion. You will get to engage in discussions about
interesting physics concepts and apply your learning to
create projects collaboratively.
Some of the exciting opportunities in Club Afflatus :

● Interacting with guest experts from the scientific or

designing field who can provide us with insights on
how physics is used while designing products
● Learning how the knowledge of physics can be very
helpful to overcome problems or challenges that you
may face during the creation of any project
● Brainstorming about projects that aim to further the
world’s progress with the SDGs created by the UN
● Become comfortable with each part of the design
cycle throughout the course of your project-making

And so much more!

Our Goal: Vocal For Local!

The boom of globalization and market capitalization has vastly affected our rich cultural heritage of
art and handicrafts. Affordable plastic toys have taken over our preference for locally made terracotta
toys, which were once used to beautify our homes. We preferred longevity and production over
quality but forgot that we are leaving a heap of trash for our coming generation which will take
millions of years to decompose and put our nature at risk for our selfish needs.

The local artisans had an adverse effect on their livelihood because of the fast reduction of demand
for locally made handicrafts. One such art form is the Asharikandi Terracotta Toy of Assam. These
traditional toys are made of clay, bamboo, pith etc, and represents the simple figure of birds, animal
and deities. But the most famous dolls found in the region are from Asharikandi.

This art form has historical relevance as its roots lie in the ancient city of Harappa in the Asharikandi
Village in Assam’s Dhubri district and have a clear influence of the Indus Valley civilization on these
terracotta toys. More than 200 families are involved in this ancient practice of making toys and
striving to keep the tradition alive.

Our aim is to support the diverse traditions and cultural heritage and be the voice for these artisans
by promoting locally made products that are not only eco-friendly but also pocket-friendly!
