What roles do base and superstructure play in the evolution of
society? Explain with examples.

4) Is recognition an essential element of the sovereignty of a state?


Discuss with the help of Taiwan-China and Israel-Palestine examples.
How does the Montevideo Convention (1933) define the role of
recognition? What is its legal validity? Critically analyse.

5) ‘Power is a contested idea’. Discuss this statement using various


definitions of power. From the definitions, which features of power can
you derive? Elaborate.

6) Are liberty and equality contradictory ideals? Critically analyse the


relation between liberty, equality and authority. Which perspective on
the relation do you subscribe to? Justify.
