Read the case carefully and answer BOTH questions. West Community has a population of 7000 residents, some of whom are farmers. For several months, farmers in the community were alarmed at the presence of unfamiliar pests that invaded their farms. The pests destroyed the farms as they fed on the root crops the farmers had planted. Farmers expressed concern about the availability of adequate food supplies for the community if the pests were not destroyed quickly. The Ministry of Agriculture hired a team of researchers to meet with the farmers to determine the origin of the pests. At the meeting, questionnaires were distributed to 160 farmers. Among the questions on the questionnaire was one requiring the farmers to indicate what they considered to be the origin of the pests. The analysis of the data for this question revealed the following: 40 per cent of the farmers believed that the pests came from a nearby town which was experiencing a drought; 25 per cent said the pests were attracted to one of the crops planted; 20 per cent said they eame from garbage; 10 per cent said the soil was over used and thus encouraged pests; 5 per cent did not respond. The researchers presented their findings to the ministry and made some recommendations to solve the problem. 4.
