Introduction

Schiff bases are some of the most widely used organic compounds. They are used as pigments
and dyes, catalysts, intermediates in organic synthesis, and as polymer stabilizers.

Schiff bases are aldehyde- or ketone-like compounds in which the carbonyl group is replaced
by an imine or azomethine group. They are widely used for industrial purposes and also
exhibit a broad range of biological activities.

In the present study, we have described the formation of Pt(II) Schiff base complex .Schiff
base ligand HL, E)-2-((1-(thiophen-2-yl)ethylidene) amino)phenol and the complex were
synthesised by ultrasonic irradiation and characterized by physicochemical and spectroscopic
methods.

This repport will explain the results of the article to determine the different properties of the
Pt(II) Schiff base complex.

Part II. Results and discussion

II.1. FTIR spectral analysis :

The Fig 3 shows the FTIR spectrum of the ligand (A) and the complex (B).

 The Pt(II) complex showed different absorption bands which refered to OH , C-S-C
ring ,C=N ,M-N and M-S bonds .

 The Schiff base showed bands which refered to the azomethine group, C-S-C ring.

 C-S-C ring band is shifted in the complex .

 The shift refers to the coordination through acetylthiophene ring sulfur.

 The coordination sites can be in chelation .

II.3. Mass spectra alnalysis :

The Fig 5 shows mass spectrum of the Schiff base ligand HL .

the molecular ion [C12H11NSO]+ peak confirms the proposed formula of ligand.

The Fig 6 shows mass spectrum of the Pt (II) complex .

the peak at 267 m/z confirms the formula of the complex.

II.4. Electronic spectral, magnetic measurement :

The table provides information about electronic spectral data and magnetic moment of the
ligand and the complex.

 The band at 266 nm was attributed to intra-ligand π-π* transitions.
 the band at 360 nm was refered to n- π* transition of lone pair of azomethine.
 the shift of the absorption bands of the Pt(II) complex compared to those of the
ligand.proved the chelation.
 The reddish brown is the color of Pt(II) complex.
 the bands at 676, 568 nm were assigned to 1 A1g-3 Eg and 3 A1g-3 A2g transitions.
 complex was found to be diamagnetic and a square planar d8 systems.

II.5. Molecular modeling :

The 3D structure of the Pt(II) complex is showed in Fig7.

Part III. Platinum (II) Schiff base complex study

III.1.Type of ligand and metal :

 The IR spectrum of Pt(II) complex showed that the coordination in metal ions via the
imine N and S atoms (azomethine nitrogen and acetylthiophene sulfur).
 After the analysis of the different results and spectrum it is clear that the ligand is
L2 type.
 Platinum is a transition metal.
 the electronic structure of Pt is [Xe]4f¹⁴5d⁹6s¹

 the electronic structure of Pt(II) is [Xe]4f¹⁴5d8

III.2.Geometry :
 From magnetic spectra and 3D modeling it is found that the geometrical structure of Pt(II)
complex is square planar.

III.3.Megnatic behavior :
 The Pt(II) complex was found to be diamagnetic.
 there is no single electrons.
 The color of the complex is reddish brown color.

Conclusion

In this repport ,we investigate the different proreties of the Schiff base ligand (E)-2-((1-
(thiophen-2-yl) ethylidene)amino)phenol HL and its Pt(II) complex.

IR spectra of the Schiff base ligand HL showed that the ligand was coordinating through NS
donors atoms in Pt(II) complex.

the 3D modeling show that the geometric of Pt(II) complex is square planar and it is a
diamagnetic .
