PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION - The trade Exploration subject is a basic introduction to the

different trades. This will give trainees the knowledge of main topics that will be covered in their
trade and will guide them to make an informed decision towards a trade of their liking. An
understanding of Trade Exploration is key to a young person’s preparedness for trade life. This
subject will help trainees develop competencies that will be enhanced as they progress through
the different levels of Trade Exploration. The programme, therefore, aims at providing
Caribbean learners with the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes that would help them
negotiate an increasingly complex and dynamic technological environment in which they have to
live and work, as well as contribute positively to the region and the world. This course of study
will contribute to the development of the Ideal Caribbean Person who demonstrates multiple
literacies, independent and critical thinking to problem solving. On completion of this syllabus,
students will learn to do, learn to be and learn to transform themselves and society.

PROGRAM GOALS - The study of Trade Exploration is intended to assist students to:

3. Develop an awareness of the employability skills that a trainee can develop;
4.Identify the different basic measuring tools used in trades;

provide information on the APA format.

TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS - Each trainee is required to have access to an electronic

device, CD or flash drive, MSWord, Excel, and PowerPoint (2000 or higher) software and
internet access as well as an email address provided by the institution (Gmail account). Internet

completed and a quiz grade will be awarded per semester. In addition, for trainees to be

promoted to the next level, he/she must have a completed portfolio. An outline of the portfolio
will be provided by your instructor along with the portfolio rubric.

MODES OF INSTRUCTION - In this program, we will utilize both face to face and online
learning (blended learning) and the following methodologies:

⮚ Inquiry-based learning :(Ask high-level questions and make research suggestions about
the process rather than the content, students reflect on the experience and what they
learnt)
⮚ Cooperative Learning: (Students mixed levels of ability are arranged into groups and
rewarded according to the group’s success, rather than the success of an individual
member)
⮚ High-Tech Approach: (The use of computer, internet, PowerPoint presentations, videos)
⮚ In-Class Discussions
⮚ Direct Instruction
⮚ Kinesthetics Learning: (Hands-on experiences, drawing, role-play, visual creations,
practical demonstrations)
⮚ Differentiated Instruction: (Have students read books at their reading levels, offering
different spelling/vocab lists, or meeting in small groups to reteach topics)
⮚ Revision

Furthermore, you will be expected to use email and WhatsApp to respond to the course instructor
and peers about assigned topics. Any technology used in the delivery of the course will be used
for educational purposes only. Violation of the above will result in disciplinary actions.
