• Lab reports are written to describe and analyze a laboratory experiment that
explores a scientific concept.
• Producing a lab report is one of the most important tasks that students
assigned during college education.
• Basically, this report gives a detailed account of the project or experiment
conducted in a laboratory.
• This detailed account expresses the observations of the student along with
his/her interpretation of the whole experiment.

1. Title Page :– As the name suggests, this page tells the reader about the title
of the assignment or experiment.
• The title should be concise yet it should describe what the paper is about.
• Other than the title page it must also contain the name of the student, name
of the course, date and name of the institute.
2. Table of Content – It is the second important component that organizes all
the content of the report page number wise.
• The purpose of this page is to make it convenient for the reader to refer to
the desired topic via the page number.
3. Introduction – As the name says it, this section provides a brief explanation
of the purpose of the experiment, its background and the main points covered in
the report.

4. Materials Needed – In this page, the student needs to list down all the
equipment’s or other materials used in the experiment.
• However, you don’t need to include the amount of the substance used
in the experiment. In short, you list everything which is needed for the
assignment.
5. Procedure of the Experiment – This section gives a detailed account of the
conducted experiment in a step-by-step method.
• It should be written in a simple and easy-to-understand language that
even the reader could replicate the same experiment.
• Illustrations such as diagrams can also be used to make the explanation
clear to the reader.
6. Data of the Experiment – In this section graphs can be used to represent the
numerical data recorded during the experiment.

7. Results – As it indicates, this page will present the results emerged from
the experiment.
8. Discussion – Here the writer will expound on the experiment’s result and
the concerned findings.
9. Conclusion – This section will wrap up the report by stating a thorough
and succinct summary of the experiment and the findings resulted from it.
