ASSINGNMENT:1

Map an organization and explain its ergonomic initiatives.

The Organizational Mapping Tool (OMT) is an open-source, organizational

assessment tool that is designed to help non-profits identify and prioritize their
organizational strengthening needs. BUILD grantees use the tool at the
beginning of their grant period to help them better understand and prioritize
their needs in key areas like strategy, leadership, finances, and systems. The
OMT also yields data that the foundation’s BUILD team uses to improve its
responsiveness and performance.
In order to kick off an organizational change initiative, you need to understand
how things are being done today. After all, how can you draw out directions to
where you are going if you do not know where you are now? For most people,
the idea of process mapping can be overwhelming. To help you get started,
we’ve listed out the five basic steps to take when mapping an existing process
and laying the foundation for a new, more efficient process map.
 DETERMINE HOW YOUR ORGANIZATION DELIVERS ON
OBJECTIVES

 CONSIDER YOUR INPUTS & OUTPUTS

 DEFINE YOUR ROLES
 ASSIGN YOUR ACTIVITIES AND DEPENDENCIES
 BUILD A PROCESS MAP

Ergonomics (or human factors) is the scientific discipline concerned with the
understanding of interactions among humans and other elements of a system,
and the profession that applies theory, principles, data and methods to design in
order to optimize human well-being and overall system performance.

The word ergonomics comes from the Greek word “ergon” which means work
and “nomos” which means laws. It’s essentially the “laws of work” or “science
of work”. The Good ergonomic design removes incompatibilities between the
work and the worker and creates the optimal work environment.

Ergonomics draws on many disciplines to optimize the interaction between the

work environment and the worker.

The ergonomic aspects of a product are intimately linked to the positive or

negative experience that users will get from it. Understanding the main
types of ergonomics allows us to understand how to design a holistic
experience for all the people who will interact a product.

Physical ergonomics

Physical ergonomics refers to the physical and physiological capabilities of users

when dealing with a product.

Cognitive ergonomics

Cognitive ergonomics refers to the understanding of systems by users. It studies

the psychological aspect of users when faced with a physical or digital interface.

Organizational ergonomics

Organizational ergonomics is the study of complex systems, communications

and group management.
