INDIVIDUAL GOAL

 I want to learn the German language because planning to do

my master’s in Germany and it’s very important to learn
German:

APPLYING SMART TECHNIQUES TOWARDS ACHIEVING

INDIVIDUAL GOAL

S: Specific

The first step to setting a goal using the smart technique is to think
for at least 30 minutes to define your intentions.

● Taking some time to recognize objectives and using smart

criteria will help put more detail and direction into setting health
and lifestyle goals.

● We start by stating the objective we wish to meet as specifically

as possible.

● Create a statement for your goal as an instruction whereby you

tell yourself what to do.
● The specificity of the objective statement will help define the
pathway more clearly

I will learn German for at least 1 hour as after my bachelor’s I

want to go to Germany and German is an important criterion for
my goal

M: Measurable

The second step is adding quantifiable or measurable criteria to

the goal which will allow us to measure progress as we work
towards achieving the goal.

● Being able to count off the numbers with progress will feel good
and measuring can help keep us from cheating.

● Measuring results can help adjust our goals as we work towards

meeting our objectives.

Try speaking and writing German daily

A: Achievable

The third step requires breaking larger goals into smaller goals and
spelling out the process required for achieving the objective.
While designing the goal it should be kept in mind that the goal is
attainable as unattainable goals will only cause failure.

● The individual goals must be realistic so that one can achieve all
the individual steps that are needed

R: Relevant

This step focuses on the individual to think if the goal set has
some sense or has some personal importance or relevance.

● Goals should be inspiring enough that it motivates us to

succeed. If we are not determined to achieve our goal, obstacles
will be extremely difficult to overcome.

● The goal should be meaningful and should be set by the

individual itself, not by someone else.

T: Time-bound
At this stage, the individual needs to choose a time that is realistic
but not too far off into the future.
● The individual must evaluate the process and set a new goal
based on progress and interests.
