Student: Adelia Duffrin

Class: 3s
HISTORY:
-Basketball was invented in 1891 by Dr. James Naismith but Clara Baer
influenced the invention of Netball.
-The International governing body for Basketball: The National Basketball
Association (NBA)
-The International governing body for Netball: The International Federation of
Netball Association (IFNA)
-Recent changes to Netball & Basketball rules due to technology:
The advancements of technology used in the both sport have not only changed
professional sport dramatically, but it has also impacted sports at the root
level. Tech has had a profound impact on all sorts of things in the basketball
sphere, ranging from in-game changes, to changes to the way the sport is
watched and consumed.
Some of these changes are the Action replays and GPS tracking technology.
This data includes investing in technology that tracks the physical and athletic
performance data by individual basketball players. With all the current ways to
view a basketball game (tablet, smart phones, computers, televisions, etc) that
provide replays on demand- the NBA is doing its best to keep up with the
times- and, in some areas, transcend them.
How the game is played:
-Netball starts with a pass from the center circle by the ‘centre’ of the team
which won the toss.
-Duration of netball
1st Break 2nd Half time 3rd Break 4th
quarter quarter break quarter quarter
15mins 3 mins 15 mins 5 mins 15 mins 3 mins 15 mins

-Basketball starts with 2 players, one per team, standing in the centre circle
ready to take the ‘jump ball’ which signifies the starting of the game.
-Duration of basketball
1st Break 2nd Half time 3rd Break 4th

-Points are scored in Netball by a goal shooter or goal attack managing to pass
the ball through the netball post of the opponent side, in the goal third.
-Points are scored in Basketball by scoring a basket. The number of points
scored depends on where on the court the player was when they took the
shot.
-To win a game of Netball & basketball, your team must score more points that
your opponent’s team.
