1. NAME OF THE PUPPET

For this puppet project, I have planned to make animal puppets because there can
be learning outcomes if I use animal and insect puppets. In addition, using friendly
puppets will make children feel comfortable to see the puppets again puppets like
animals or insects because children aged from 0 to 4 years need puppets that are
funny or friendly and easy to be seen by them so that they are not afraid to look and
cry. Because at that young age, children will cry and be afraid if they see puppets
that are not suitable for their age. Because of this, we as educators should choose
puppets that are suitable for their age.

In addition, the name of the puppet is Greeny Ghopper (GG) which is short for
grasshopper because I want to make my puppet's name unique and memorable. In
other words, I have chosen insects such as grasshoppers to make puppets because
using animal or insect puppets can help children to attract their attention and it is
suitable for children starting at 4 years old only. The reason I chose the grasshopper
puppet is that it is very friendly for children because of the insect concept, with visual
aids that help to make it easier to understand based on the puppet model. For the
concept of the Greeny Ghopper (GG) puppet, this insect is a puppet that is funny and
not scary when seen, and the use of materials is also very friendly for children.
Furthermore, this puppet can be used as a story in children's story time because it is
very suitable if used in a storytelling session to attract children's attention.

3. STEP MAKING OF PUPPET

First of all, we were instructed to make a puppet and we had

to sketch the puppet we wanted. The purpose of sketching
puppets is to see and get permission if appropriate to
continue the puppet making process by the lecturer.

Next, I have sketched a puppet of six puppets from my idea

because I need to see a suitable puppet to be a model for
children and finally I have chosen a grasshopper puppet.

In addition, I have given a puppet sketch that I want to make

to get approval from the lecturer and five sketches of my
ideas in the group.

After that, I coloured the grasshopper puppet that had been
sketched so that I could imagine the colour of the puppet that
I wanted.

Besides, I have thought about the appropriate and necessary

materials for making grasshopper puppets, then I only buy
the materials that I have listed.

Other than that, I have started the process of making

grasshopper puppets one by one and I create puppets like
the sketches I have made.

9|Page
Furthermore, while doing the puppet making process I have
taken pictures of each process to be used as proof that I
made the grasshopper puppet myself.

Last but not least, I have finished making the grasshopper

puppet process.

4. CONNECT THE PUPPET AND DEVELOPMENT THE CHILD
WILL LEARN

Playing with puppet is one of the most educational activities we can expose children
to. This puppet is not just a performance but it is able to connect the development of
children who will learn. Putting puppets in a child's hands, or rather in a child's hands,
can set the stage for valuable learning opportunities in many areas of development.
Handheld toys are exciting toys that have the potential to improve language and
communication skills, social/emotional development, build self-confidence, help
children to learn and understand the world around them through safe and imaginative
play. There are great developmental benefits to be gained when we encourage
children to play with dolls.

First of all, the relationship between puppets and the development of children
that they will learn is language and communication skills because hand puppets and
finger puppets can spark their interest. Children love to have conversations with
puppets, every verbal interaction with their puppets will encourage language
development. In general, shy children will benefit from the opportunity to let the
puppet be their voice by having a conversation between the two puppets.
Furthermore, puppets have offered an interesting way to interact and explore their
knowledge of the world.
Next, the relationship between the puppets and the children's development
that they will learn is social and emotional development. At that young age, those
who are shy or still small have the opportunity to socialize through puppets. In
addition, puppets can be used as voices that are used to form social skills and even
become instructors and children often enjoy listening to puppets teach them to get
along. Apart from that, puppets can teach about their various unique emotions.
Where children can interact with puppets as they share their ability to be happy, sad,
angry and funny.
After that, the relationship between puppets and the development of children
they will learn is able to channel listening and motor skills because puppets can
encourage children to listen through instructions or telling stories. In addition,
puppets can help children learn rhymes and songs because they also imitate the
puppets. Meanwhile, motor skills can be improved by children through playing with
puppets because the fine movements required to wear the puppet can help with
dexterity and using fingers to manipulate the puppet to improve fine motor

coordination. In addition, it can help with hand-eye coordination and even all these
skills improve balance and direction because children really enjoy playing with dolls.
Last but not least, the relationship between puppets and the development of
children they will learn is to build self-confidence. With the appearance of puppet
shows often happen spontaneously when children have access to puppets because
puppets help to encourage children to develop self-confidence through them handling
puppets. As children's confidence increases, they will start to feel comfortable and
happy around them such as entertaining their family or friends because puppets
make children more confident to speak in front of others with the help of puppet
friends.

In conclusion, puppets are able to connect children's learning which can give them
language and communication skills, develop social and emotional development, give
them confidence and so on. Through this benefit, children are able to learn through
the puppets because puppets are able to help children understand the world through
stories. Also, when children play with dolls then a new world opens up to them where
they can be whoever they want to be. Meanwhile, every different day the puppets will
change characters such as animals or superheroes or jobs. Endless roles are useful
for brainstorming ideas for children that may help them use when playing with
puppets, to help develop imagination and new learning motivation.

5. PROCESS IN THE MAKING OF PUPPET

NO. PROCESS MAKING PUPPET WITH EXPLANATION

1.

13 | P a g e
 First of all, I sketched six puppets based on my idea before I chose the
final puppet I wanted to create.

2.

 Next, based on the six puppet sketches, I have chosen a grasshopper

puppet with an animal concept because it is suitable for the age of the
children.

14 | P a g e
3.

 In addition, I have listed the materials before going to the store and I
bought the materials to make the puppets like the sketches I have drawn.

4.

 First of all, I drew a half circle on the box and cut it out for the puppet's
head.

15 | P a g e
5.

 Next, I put the box for the head on the tape on the two parts in order to be
able to place the hands in an orderly manner and to be able to move the
hands inside the puppet socks.

6.

 Apart from that, because I don't have cotton so I have to used a cotton pad
to make it look thick and not thin for surface of the head.

16 | P a g e
7.

 After that, I put the finished head part after putting the cotton pad in the
sock to be the mouth movement.

8.

 In other that, for the wings of this grasshopper I have used cactus cotton
net craft for the wings because I want the puppet to look more realistic.

17 | P a g e
9.

 Finally, I have placed eyes using wiggles eyes and thorns using
grasshopper chenille stick on the head to make it more interesting and like
a real grasshopper.

 Then, this is the final touch of the grasshopper puppet that I have made.

6. CONCLUSION

In conclusion, these puppets are able to provide learning and teaching

through performances or storytelling in these puppets because of the various values
and benefits found in the puppets. First of all, puppets can help children to be
interested in learning because they will be interested in something like a game
through educational learning tools. For example, with visuals and a variety of
interesting puppet roles, these puppets are able to attract children's attention to see
and understand stories that are able to give them moral values. By learning through
these puppets, children will be more enthusiastic to learn. Next, puppets are able to
provide space for children before or after learning because they also need space to
rest either after they learn or before they start an activity. Children need time for them
to rest and before they start a learning session. For example, before starting the
lesson they will see a puppet show so that they are more enthusiastic to engage in
learning activities. After that, after they finished the learning time they can see the
puppet show to help them get the learning value at the end of the story. Lastly,
puppets are able to provide moral value because through the stories and roles
played by these puppets, they can have a positive effect on children at their young
age. For example, the roles played by puppets are like superheroes or fairy tales,
animals and jobs based on stories they will play with stories that are appropriate for
the age of children. In other words, children will gain moral values through stories
and characters that have been played. Overall, puppets play an important role in
children's education and learning because they are able to provide benefits and have
a positive effect on children.
