TITLE OF MAIN ARTICLE

Dyslexia makes it difficult for children to read, spell and write

What is Dyslexia?

Dyslexia is a disease that makes it difficult for individuals to read, spell and write. Dyslexia
also causes individuals to have problems with the way the brain works, the way it thinks, the
way it sees, the way it writes, the way it spells and the way it listens. Dyslexia is a disease
that is obvious when seen at a young age such as preschool children.

Why Does Dyslexia Occur?

Researchers in Malaysia have conducted studies on children and investigated how dyslexia
can occur in children. As is well known, this dyslexic disease occurs genetically or from
one’s own family members known as heredity. When a family member suffers from dyslexia,
it is highly likely that it will occur in that individual. Because on average, dyslexia can occur in
the severity of family members and it is open to a disease that can be contagious unless it is
from the family inheritance that passes down the inheritance to individuals in the future.

Let's Know Dyslexia Symptoms

Some of the symptoms that have been known are:

1) Difficulty reading
2) Slow to recognize letters
3) Bad at writing
4) Having trouble hearing what others are saying
5) Can't remember what was learned
6) Difficulty speaking with new words
7) Have a strong delusion
8) Not confident

How to Overcome Dyslexia

For this dyslexia disease, there is no technique that is able to overcome the disease. What
we can overcome dyslexia is to do the right diagnosis treatment is very important to improve
the weaknesses of the individual. Teachers have helped to hold special programs for
individuals with dyslexia, and even teachers will improve literacy skills and cognitive function
in children as it is able to help them improve their learning. However, it is not only teachers
who are the main characters to dyslexic children. in fact, parents should be the main
character as well to help their child with dyslexia. Parents should show support and give
them enthusiasm to learn, often taking them to read story books like parents read books and
children should listen, teaching them to write and spell when parents and children have free

time. Therefore, we as adults should be the main characters to children suffering from
dyslexia.

INTRODUCTION

Specific Learning Disorder (SLD) or better known as Dyslexia which is a congenital

syndrome in some individuals. This dyslexia is where the individual is unable to read, spell
and write because they have a sensitivity to learning or are slow to comprehend learning.
Furthermore, this dyslexic disease makes it difficult for individuals to recognize words to
spell and they have a low ability to learn.

First of all, dyslexia are reading disorder in individuals that causes difficulty in
reading, spelling and writing. This dyslexic disease, may exist from birth in some individuals.
To identify how dyslexia is present in individuals is to make observations at the preschool
level that is the age of the young child. These dyslexia can affect children’s learning, causing
them to be slow to comprehend learning and difficulty in identifying words that make them
difficult to spell and write. In addition, dyslexia are not only in preschool but it can occur in
adolescents and adults. The reason is, when the individual has not mastered learning such
as reading or spelling. They will experience difficulty at a high level, so that it can occur in
adolescence and adulthood.

Next, one of the causes of dyslexia is from heredity because based on research
shows that when family members or relatives of individuals have dyslexia will have a greater
risk of developing the disease dyslexia. The cause of this dyslexic disease, is not from the
self in each individual with dyslexia but is from the individual family genes that can cause
them to inherit the disease. However, dyslexia will affect the brain of individuals to slow
down their learning process such as slow reading, difficult to spell and not good at writing.
Furthermore, at such a young age as children they will find it difficult to learn when some of
them have dyslexia. It makes it harder for them to get into a new world, for example they get
into preschool and to study. But when individuals cannot read or spell it will make it more
difficult for them to deal with their worries because at that age it will be easy to feel anxious
and scared if they are not good at recognizing words and slow to process the learning they
are learning.

In addition, dyslexia make individuals experience difficulties due to the disorder of the
disease. It will affect children with dyslexia, which causes children to be slow to learn such
as not being able to recognize letters which causes them to be unable to read and spell and
even children will have difficulty writing. However, Malaysia has plans to address the
problem of dyslexia by using modules or holding intervention programs. Teachers who are in
schools should make observations on children to see individuals with dyslexia, and even
teachers need to improve literacy skills such as reading and writing skills in children with
dyslexia. In other words, this intervention study aimed to improve the cognitive learning skills
of children with dyslexia.

Finally, the traditional way of learning will not affect dyslexic individuals. Therefore,
teachers need to emphasize a variety of teaching and learning methods for children with
dyslexia that can result in gradual improvement. However, motor coordination, visual skill
and visual motor are very important to be applied in learning used in learning to write is very
important. In other words, after making a study of children with dyslexia it was found that
there are not enough fine motor skills that can cause them difficulty in writing and drawing. In
addition, this intervention program is to help individuals suffering from dyslexia that causes
them to be slow to recognize words and unable to spell.

The method of intervention research is to improve the literacy skills function and cognitive
function of children with dyslexia. Researchers in Malaysia have focused on literacy skills
only because it is very important in research, as it will contribute to the improvement of
reading and writing for dyslexic children.

CONTENT

Dyslexia is a neurobiological impairment that primarily affects reading ability. It is commonly

known as a reading disorder which is likely to be present at birth and is generally identified at
preschool level. Dyslexia is manifested through difficulties with accurate word recognition
and also by poor performance in reading and writing.

There are some symptoms and signs of dyslexia found like it, children will have
difficulty learning to read. Although their intelligence levels are normal, dyslexic children
appear to be slower and work harder to learn to read. Besides, children speak slowly. The
ability to speak very slowly, therefore dyslexic children need more time to learn to speak.
And with this too, parents need to play a role in nurturing and bringing children to speak so
that it can help them to speak. Other than that, dyslexia symptoms are also found to be
relatively slow motor development. Slower motor development than in children of his age.
For example: crawling, walking, or talking longer than children his age. Next, poor Movement
Coordination. They are a little slow in improving coordination of movements. For example, it
is difficult to align the eyes with hand movements. Lastly is children will get sick easily and
their difficulty in concentrating. They also tend to be more susceptible to allergies, fever,
eczema, or asthma.

ISSUES

NO. ISSUES
1. Dyslexia have increasingly been found to be the most common learning
disability accounting up to 80 percent of the learning-disabled population in
general.

2. They also have problems in visual attention span that greatly affects their
reading skill.

3. Dyslexia may also have difficulties with memorizing as well as difficulties in

letter identification.

4. Most students with dyslexia present with significant deficits in phonological

processing, verbal working memory and processing speed.

5. The child with SLD usually have difficulties in literacy and mathematical skills
such as reading single word, reading comprehension, writing and spelling,
arithmetic calculation, and mathematical reasoning.

6. The deficits in keystone academic skills lead to poor academic achievement

and they tended to lag far.

7. The lag in academic achievement is not due to intellectual disabilities, other

mental or neurological disorders, visual or auditory problems or poor or
inappropriate academic instruction.

8. Behind in age and intellectual ability from their peers and the lag in academic
achievement are not due to intellectual.

9. Disabilities, other mental or neurological disorders, visual or auditory problems

or poor or inappropriate academic instruction.

10. There are no standard modules for dyslexia classes in Malaysian public
schools.

11. Less emphasis is given to cognitive skills training.

12. Teachers used traditional methods in this teaching to overcome their

difficulties in the classroom and were found to be unsatisfactory and
unsuccessful in overcoming their difficulties in reading.

13. Traditional learning methods are not effective for dyslexic children because
they tend to be stereotypical, teacher-centered and passive.

14. Dyslexic children do not have enough fine motor skills that affect the
calligraphy and letters they draw in copying tasks.

15. Some of the procedures in the training were not well described so it was not
fully understood how the strategies had worked to help the subjects to
overcome their difficulties.

16. Treated differently, it is difficult to conclude which intervention has worked best
for a particular deficit.

17. It is difficult to choose the most practical intervention.

18. In Malaysia, limited studies have been conducted to reduce cognitive function
in dyslexic children.

19. Researchers in Malaysia often focus on literacy and linguistic skills only. It is
important that researchers in Malaysia go beyond literacy skills and take into
account the basic cognitive functions that contribute to reading and writing
performance specifically for dyslexic children.

20. Intervention methods used to improve children’s literacy and cognitive

function.

CRITICS

NO. CRITICS EXPLANATION

1. The pages are a bit plain and  The article only has a long essay
unattractive sentence from the beginning of the
page to the end of the page, and has
no pictures showing examples of
dyslexia.

 The pages of the article seem very

blank and uninteresting for the reader
to read.

2. Using essay sentences  The article uses essay sentences so

that this article is not interesting to
read.

3. Less main point  Since the article uses essay

sentences, the main point is a bit less
and difficult for us to find because the
sentences are too long.

4. Didn't use a point to put important  To create an article, it is necessary to

content in the article put the important content in the form
of points in the article so that it is
easy for the reader to understand
what is to be conveyed.

OPINIONS

In my opinion, this article on dyslexia has a detailed story but a bit less for us to see
the points we need to make a study for our assignment. First of all, the article we can get is a
bit plain without pictures that make the article look empty and unattractive. For an article, I
suggest to add something interesting such as placing a picture so that each page does not
look blank and the article will be more interesting to see and not get bored when reading.
Next, in the article, only has a long essay sentence until the conclusion, although this article
has a detailed story but it is too long so we took a week to read and understand the article
with a long content. My suggestion is to make a form in the form of a time table and put
important points for this dyslexia disease, so that we can understand what the meaning and
causes of the disease. Finally, my opinion of the article we got was that the point was less
for doing an assignment study on childhood illness. As we read in the article, the word is
long as an essay so we can't find the main points for our assignment. My suggestion is that
for an article to put an important point for the reader to understand what is to be conveyed
so that the reader can easily find the important point.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, dyslexia are prevalent in our society. It is a lifelong condition that

affects children in school and adults in their vocational and social settings. Adults with
dyslexia do exist and are often unrecognized because they appear to function well in society
and tend to cover up their disabilities or tend to jobs that do not emphasize their disabilities.
Meanwhile, dyslexia among children are very noticeable at the beginning of their schooling,
with a state of slow reading, writing and so on.

Further research is still underway on the nature of dyslexia, the deficits that need to
be addressed, and the strategies that can be used to achieve this goal. Individuals with
dyslexia can learn to read with the right guidance, help and resources that can do so with a
sense of accomplishment, skill and confidence.
