I. Definition: Define the following:

1. System Unit
Box-like case that contains electronic components of the computer used to process
data. Sometimes called the chassis. It includes the motherboard, CPU, RAM, and other
components. The case that houses these components is also part of the system unit.

2. Power Supply
The power supply works to convert the power from the source into the correct format
and voltage. A power supply is a component that supplies power to an electrical device. It
receives power from an electrical outlet and converts the current from AC (alternating current)
to DC (direct current), which is what the computer requires. Because a variety of options exist,
the specific power supply function depends on whether it needs to regulate energy to convert
power, which allows the computer to run smoothly without overheating.

3. Motherboard
Motherboards are central to a computer system. All components required for the
system to function are plugged into the motherboard. The motherboard uses a Bus Network to
allow the components to communicate with each other. It carries the electrical signals from all
the parts of the system so the parts can interact with each other.

4. Memory
A general term referring to a place to store files or data in a computer, can be short
term or long term, can be volatile or non-volatile, found on the motherboard. For example,
Random Access Memory (RAM), is a volatile memory that stores information on an integrated
circuit used by the operating system, software and hardware.

5. Expansion Card
An expansion card is an electronic circuit board that adds more functionality to a
computer. Expansion cards are installed into the expansion slot of a computer motherboard. It
allows a person to upgrade or expand the capabilities of his/her computer.
