Burial practices - Infants (family member or not)
that attended in the funeral are passed over
before his/her burial.It is believed that these kids,
who cannot grasp yet the entire scenario of what
is happening, are too vulnerable to having bad
dreams at night after the funeral itself.

Birth Practices. In one of the barrios of Guagua,
Pampanga, close relatives of a woman who is
about to deliver a child, together with their
neighbor, make noise like shouting, beating tin
cans and exploding firecrackers in order to help
expel the fetus faster.

Courtship and Marriage
-Pasaguli or Riddle Courtship. This form of
courtship has been practiced ever since before
the Spanish rule arrived in the country. In this
wooing form, parents of both the suitor and the
pursued lady are present in the event where love
riddles are delivered for two major purposes: to
showcase certain expressions of love and to
assess the sentiments of the parents of both
parties. After everything is done, they will settle
the price in a form of dowry. This is most
commonly done in the region of Palawan in the
past.

Those who attended the burial in the cemetery
must return to the deceased's home by taking a
different route from the one they've taken to get
there. Upon arrival, they must wash their faces
and hands. It is said to remove the power of
death.
A pregnant woman will walk around the house to
empty her water bag during labor is supposed to
ease childbirth. When a woman is undergoing
extreme difficulty, the husband either turns the
house ladder upside down or massages crushed
ginger on his wife's belly.
Panagasawa or marriage to the Ilocano is but a
reaffirmation of the man and woman's gasat
(fate). It is considered a sacred partnership which
lasts until the death of either partner.
Once the couple decide to marry, the boy informs
the girl's parents about their plans. This
announcement is known as the panagpudno.
Approval is sought from the boy's parents since
they usually spend for the wedding and provide
for the dowry. When both families agree, the
date of the wedding is set either by consulting
the planetano (an almanac which lists all good or
bad days for all activities), or by communicating
through the billeta, a letter sent from the boy to
the girl by a messenger. The response is also sent
through the same messenger.
