CERAMICS

Name: Break a cup, make some art

Material: broken cups, cardboard, magazine stripes, glue
Tools: scissor, pincers
Size:

One day I broke my partner’s favorite cup. He got so upset and I honestly didn’t know
how to comfort him. “Look how beautifully it actually broke”, I said, but it obviously didn’t
help 😊 He would refuse to throw away what was left of it, and I couldn’t find a similar
one. Looking at the broken pieces, I slowly imagined ways of giving them a new life.
“Beautifully useless”, he said when seeing my #microart. But he laughed and got over it.
Ever since that day, we don’t break cups, plates, glasses or whatever. We simply make
art. And when we don’t art anything for too much time, I art a cup myself. What did you
art today? #Lookaround turn your broken objects into things that could keep their story
alive. Otherwise throw them away mindfully.

Did you know that…

Ceramic and crockery, in general, like plates or mugs are not considered recyclable,
tough sometimes facilities that recycle bricks and concrete will also recycle ceramics.
If you have broken crockery, one option is to throw it out (unless you are creative
enough to #microart something out of the broken pieces). One of the safest ways to
dispose of broken crockery pieces is to place them in a small box or container and then
place that box (or container) into the garbage. Make sure you seal the box, so the
crockery pieces don’t fall out.
Take-away
Recycling centers for ceramics are not always reachable, but they can identified as
centers for mineral waste, just #lookaround and search for one in your vicinity.

decoration or in pottery.
 Both natural and food-safe, ceramic dinnerware is significantly more sustainable
