Königshain-Wiederau is a small, remote community in Saxony, Germany consisting of four villages with little infrastructure and influx of new residents. It found success in integrating migrants by fostering close, personal ties between locals and migrants through the help of resident Markus Klitzsch and Muhammad Ahmad. This permanent support from residents, the mayor, church and various actors, combined with the migrants' strong language skills and all finding local jobs, helped overcome initial obstacles of protests, xenophobic slurs, and threats to dismantle the refugee camp from angry residents and right-wing extremism references.
