(1) Read the paragraph and answer the questions given below:
Biodiversity is the richness of living organisms in nature due to the presence of
various organisms, ecosystems and genetic variations within a species.
Biodiversity occurs at three different levels – genetic, species and ecosystem
diversity. 34 highly sensitive biodiversity spots are reported all over the world.
As far as India is considered, out of 135 species of animals, 85 species are found
in the jungles of eastern region. About 1,500 endemic plant species are found in
the Western Ghats. Construction of dams, roads, and colonies destroy the
habitats of wild life. Industrialization, urbanization and population explosion
put tremendous pressure on the existing biodiversity. It is crucial that we
conserve our rich biodiversity before it is completely destroyed and lost forever.
