COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, SOLIDARITY, AND CITIZENSHIP

Performance Task 1: Serving the Community

Project objective:

1. Apply the real essence of the course community engagement, solidarity, and citizenship by giving
community service through assisting a child in learning reading.

Project Specifics:

1. Look for a child who is beginning to learn reading (Kinder to Grade 2).
2. Assist the child every day in his/her reading journey for not less than 30 minutes for 2 months.
3. During your DAY 1, camcord the child reading. Let this be your baseline data.
4. For your attendance everyday, prepare a Daily Time Record to be signed by the guardian after
each session (See attachment A); you may write a journal or the child’s progress for reference,
you may also document the child’s progress through video or camcording.
5. After 2 months, prepare the following:
a. Narrative Report
b. Video Presentation

NOTE:

1. You are only to help the child monitor his/her progress in reading. Set a clear target on the
schedule and the goal of level of reading of the child.
2. As much as you could, only choose a child you know personally like a family member/ one
around your neighborhood.
