Home and Environment

Their house is made of mixed-type materials, the combination of light and strong materials such
as woods and cement. Their living space is not adequate for the family. The father verbalized “Nako.
Napakaliit ng bahay namin, Ang sikip dito kung ako lang talaga gusto ko ng lumipat kaso wala kaming
pera eh.” They have only 1 room in the 2nd floor and it is not sufficient for 7 members sleeping. He also
verbalized “Siksikan kami pag matutulog. Minsan young isa sa baba. Pero dahil may daga ay umaakyat
na lang sya dito kaya pito kami natutulog sa taas. Mahirap e, pero sanayan lang yan.” There are presence
of mosquitoes, rats and cockroaches in their house. Sometimes, the family is worried because their house
is prone to many hazards such as fire hazards because the streets in their barangay is too small to the fire
truck to enter. They has a point source type of water supply. They doesn’t have any faucet in their house
and just get water in the well in their barangay. They also drink water from the deep well. Two electric
lights are used to light the whole house. They have two electric fans as well. The source of heat for
cooking is a one-burner gas stove. The toilet facility is located outside their house. The father verbalized
“Yung cr naming nasa labas. Naghahati-hati kasi kame dyan. Pati yung ibang bahay. Kaya unahan na lang
maligo pag umaga.” They use pail system in disposing their excreta. They have also a toilet bowl donated
by the foster parents who have a program in their barangay. The garbage is well segregated and collected
by a garbage collector every night. But there are trucks who collected their garbage every Tuesday,
Thursday and Saturday. Their drainage system is a blind type. Father verbalized “Yung canal namin?
Nasa ilalim kaya di nakakasagabal.” Their neighborhood is slum and sometimes they are noisy because of
loud conversations. They do not engaged in health community services and free seminars because they
doesn’t have time and they are not used to it. Father verbalized “Hindi na kami sumasali dun. Nakakapag
exercise na din naman kami pag naglalakad. Lalo na mga anak ko pag nagtitinda sila pati na asawa ko.”
The type of transportation they used is the jeepney specially when Mang Rodolpho is going to hospital for
check-ups. They also have a tight communication relationship specially after eating; they tell their story
of what happened in that specific day.

D. Family Health Status

The family has follows some practices regarding their health. Father verbalized “Pag may sakit
kami, pag ubo o lagnat iinom lang namin ng gamot. Pero pag malala na dumidiretso na kami sa health
center para magpacheck-up.” They eat two-three times a day. They don’t have sufficient food to sustain
their whole day. Ronaldo verbalized “Kulang talaga ung kinakain namin. Kahit gusto pa naming kumain
hindi na pwede kasi wala na kaming kakainin e.” Father verbalized “Swerte na kung makakain kami ng
masarap sa isang lingo. Sobrang hirap talaga ng buhay. Kahit madami kaming gusting bilhin di namin
mabili kasi wala kaming pera.” They don’t eat together because some members of the family is in work
and school. The father has a history of lung disease. Rodolpho Jr and Randy are both alcohol drinker and
smoker. Rodolpho Jr. smokes 8 sticks per day. And drinks alcohol occasionally. Mang rodolpho also
smokes and drinks alcohol but after being diagnosed having a lung disease, he stops in doing his vices.

E. Values, Habits, Practices on Health Promotion, Maintenance and Disease Prevention

All of the members have complete immunizations and none of them had a history of allergies,
accidents. Only Mr. Rodolpho has been hospitalized due to lung disease. They have adequate rest and
sleep. Father verbalized “Sapat naman ang pahinga naming kasi pag walang ginagawa andito lang kami
sa bahay nanonood ng tv o kaya nakikinig ng radio.” They sleep for 6-8 hours a day. Walking is the only
form of exercise the family is doing. Because they do not have time in participating for the barangay’s
program regarding proper exercise. And most of them are busy in their works. The whole family is using
self-medication in case they do not have severe illness such as cough and colds. As long as they don’t feel
very weak, they didn’t go in health center for check-ups. Ronaldo verbalized “Wala naman kasi kaming
malalang sakit e. Kaya bakit kami pupunta sa health center diba?”
