Addition of Integers

Learning Competencies:
 Performs fundamental operations on integers. M7NS-Ic-d-1
Sub-topics:
1. Addition of Integers
2. Solve problems involving Addition of Integers.

GUIDE CARD

This material was designed especially to help you develop your skill in
ADDING INTEGERS AND SOLVING PROBLEMS INVOLVING ADDITION OF
INTEGERS.

As you work on the exercises, you will be able to learn how to add integers,
thereby improving your skill using different techniques in dealing with this topic.

Hi! I am Sir KRAM.

Welcome to ‘World of Integers’!
I will guide you on this journey.
Every time you see me, I have information to tell you which may help you
learn from this learning material. All you need to do is relax, take a pen
and enjoy learning. Good luck!

I have some few reminders:

1. Do not write anything on this material. Use another sheet of paper
for your answer.
2. Read and understand the directions.
3. Do not answer the next activity unless the first activity is done.
4. Refer only to the Answer key when done with the activities.
5. Remember, Honesty is the Best Policy.
Lubao International Hot Air Balloon Festival is in
Lubao Pampanga, Philippines. The festival is the biggest
annual hot air balloon festival in Southeast Asia. The
event is organized by Pilipinas International Balloon
Festival, Inc. (PIBF) in cooperation with the Arts,
Culture and Tourism Office of Pampanga (ACTO) and
with support from Provincial Government of Pampanga.

Before we start your adventure, I would like

you to focus on the processes on adding
integers. Take note of each step/rule. Happy
learning!

Addition of Integers

EXAMPLES
RULE 1:
If the integers have
the same signs, just
add the positive
7 +2 =9
equivalents of the -6 + -2 = -8
integers and copy the
common sign to the
12 + 10 = 22
result.
-8 + -5 = -13

EXAMPLES

-4 + 5 = 1
RULE 2: -7 + 2 = -5
If the integers have
different signs, get the 2 + (-2) = 0
difference of the
positive equivalents of 6 + (-7) = -1
the integers and copy
the sign of the larger Did you learn something from the examples
number to the result. presented? I hope it is now clear to you the
steps in adding integers. Are you now ready
for more learnings here at the Lubao
International Hot Air Balloon Fest? Let’s get
started!
1 ACTIVITY
CARD TO

Hello there! I hope you do understand everything in the discussion

presented on the Guide Card. At this point, my dear student, you are now
on our first stop.

The first task is to get a ticket at the ticket booth so that you can enter the
very exciting Lubao International Hot Air Balloon Festival. Here’s Kuya
Vincent to explain the first task.

Hello guys, here are the mechanics for you to get a

ticket.

1. To answer the question below, compute

the sum of the given exercises.
2. Write the letter of the problem
What is the meaning of the corresponding to the number found in
Spanish word each box at the bottom.
“HOLA BIENVENID0 A
GLOBO DE AIRE”?

H: 25 + 27 L: (-11) + 24 E: 10 + (-3) REMEMBER:

ADDITION OF
L: 18 + (-25) W: 30 + (-20) O: (-12) + 21 INTEGERS
C: (-19) + (-16) M: (-16) + (-34) E: 6 + (-23) Same signs, add and
keep
E: 4 + (-13) L: 40 + (-32) T: (-4) + (-12) Different signs,
subtract
A: (-14) + 8 T: (-26) + 13 O: (-1) + 15
use the sign of the
I: (-9) + 27 O: (-5) + (-15) H: (-7) + 7 bigger number
Then, you’ll be exact.
R: 16 + (-38) O: (-4) + (-1)

52 -17 13 8 -20 10 7 -7

-35 9 -50 -9 -13 14

0 -5 -16 -35 -6 18 -22

Are you having a hard time? That would just be at first.

Now, let us do more of that in your next challenge. Just
keep in mind the steps presented in the Guide Card. Keep
going!

2 ACTIVITY
CARD
POSITIVE SUMS
Congratulations! You are now at the Second Phase of the Activity
Challenge. I would like to personally welcome you to the beautiful and
exciting hot air festival here at Lubao. Pampanga.

For you to enjoy all the fun and activities here, you have to answer first
the entire addition problem in each hot aidr balloon for this year.
Here’s the direction.

Cross-out the Hot Air that does have a positive sum.

4 + (-1) 8+ (-9) 5+ (-3) 3+ (-5) 6+ (-3)

9+ (-5) 12+ (-8) 7+ (-12) 16+ (-13) 6+ (-17)

How many hot air balloons have a positive

sum? Did you find at least 5 of which? Well,
you’re doing great if you find at least 5. Keep
going!!! I think you can easily answer the next
challenge!

3 ACTIVITY
