On the Job: Black Diamond Equipment: Managing in a Global Environment

1. What evidence do you see of a global mindset in these managers? List at least
three examples of global thinking provided in the video.

 The black diamond’s CEO says that our main objective from beginning was to find a
global market. This was because market on the national and domestic scale was
very small that’s why they always wanted it to be aggregated on a global level so the
market could be enlarged.

 The company’s managers realized that they themselves would have to take charge
of their overseas business and cannot fully rely on the distributors.

 The CEO and managers of black diamond wanted that the brand to have the same
meaning and same cultural values everywhere like in Asia, Europe, so they wanted
same value in different cultures.

2. Referencing the common traits of an MNC described in the text, explain why
you think Black Diamond is or is not a multinational corporation.

 I think black diamond is a MNC because they are looking forward to expand
globally. They also have greenfield facility in Asia and they also want to
maximize their operations there as well. The company’s business and
consumer both are global. Hence, I think Black Diamond is an MNC.

3. Describe at least two environmental factors affecting this business, and summarize
how the managers are responding to these factors.

 Two environmental factors affecting this business are micro environment

related to its suppliers, OEM (original equipment manufacturers) and other
factor is value system of organization

 Managers are responding these factors that factory operations and operations
of its suppliers are following the guidelines given by the company and are not
wasting time in the manufacturing places. Other than that managers always
make sure that they have their own company values no matter which part of
the world they are operating in.
