MASSAGE THEORY SEMESTER 1 FINAL EXAM REVIEW

This paper contains 2 Sections; Section 1 consists of 35 multiple choice and Section 2 consists
of 6 short answer questions. You MUST answer ALL questions. You have 2 hours to
complete the exam. Do not spend too much time on any one question giving you trouble.

Section 1(multiple choice) – Circle the correct letter on the question paper given. DO NOT
WRITE THE LETTERS ON THE FILE PAPER GIVEN.

Section 2(short answer) – You will be given paper to write your answers. DO NOT use your
own paper. A blank CARE form will be provided to you for question 1 of this section.

For Section 2, ensure that you know:-

1) all of the superficial muscles discussed this semester (both posterior and anterior) and know
the Insertion and Origin of any 6 of those muscles
2) the steps in performing a full body massage
3) the benefits of massage
4) labelling of skeleton as discussed

You will be required to complete a CARE for given a case study. See below for an example.
CASE STUDY: Ms James said among other things that she is 51 years old and is having a lot
of domestic and work stress. She is also entering menopause as diagnosed by her Doctor. She is
continuously fatigued and is easily irritated for no reason. She feels the tension of her stress
mainly in the upper neck and back. The Doctor recommended a full body Swedish Massage to
relieve her tension and stressed condition.

The following should be observed:

1) Make sure to fill out the medical history of Ms James
2) Document any signs of contraindications seen
3) Name 4 major endangerment sites that you would observe in performing the Swedish
massage
4) Tick 7 strokes out of the 8 strokes on your CARE form that you will use to perform the
massage session
5) Write an evaluation at the end of the session with advice for Ms James
