Hands of the courageous

Amado Vera Hernandez is a Filipino writer born in Hagonoy, Bulacan.

He was known for his patriotic works and his involvement in the communist movement
that aims to fight the Japanese regime. His writings helped shape our culture and formed
our society.

Amado Vera Hernandez deserves the title as one of the National

artists because of his love and dedication for literature. Not only did he prove to us by his
works how great of a writer he is but through his writing, it showed how devoted he is
and how far he would sacrifice for the freedom of our country. His determination to be
heard through his written works shows the concern he has for the peasants and
laborers, makes him different from other national artists. He puts his heart and mind into
every publication. He was not just an astounding writer but he was at the same time a
fighter for freedom. With this he became the Pambansang Alagad ng Sining sa Panitikan
and today’s known national artist.

One of his famous masterpieces is entitled Isang Dipang Langit.

It is one of Amado Vera Hernandez's famous poetry that won a Republic Cultural
Heritage Award. He wrote this when he was in prison because he was accused of being
a part and leader of a rebellion in Luzon. It is a 12 stanza poem that describes his
journey inside prison. He creatively narrated how he was involuntarily put in jail and in
what way felt like he would be spending all his life inside. He described it as a cemetery
for the living.

He definitely should be one of those people whom the

generations today should look up on. His story and love for his craft will surely be
appreciated by many as it taught us that whatever challenges we may encounter, as
long as we find hope in every situation and keep in mind what we are fighting for we'll
surely overcome anything.
