My Alma Mater

The Universidad de Sta. Isabel, also simply referred to as USI or Sta. Isabel, is

a private Catholic university run by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Vincent de
Paul in Naga City Camarines Sur, Philippines. It was founded by the Rt Rev. Francisco
Gainza, O.P., Bishop of Caceres. in 1868 as the first normal school for women in the
Philippines and Southeast Asia, named in honor of the university's patron, St. Isabel,
Queen of Hungary. USI is regarded as one of the best universities in Naga City because
it not only provides education but also helps us build a better tomorrow it provides a
great learning environment for students, has excellent faculty who teach them various
classes, enriches the learners relationship with God, as well as life lessons that helps
shape students to be better people, and has community extension services that aim to
provide holistic and integral community development.
USI is more than an ordinary building. It is a big house where we are in, my
class and I is a one big family, together with our professors, and with our partnered
communities. USI provides a learning environment that is safe, healthy, engaging,
challenging, and supportive of learners’ aspiration to be prepared for further studies.
USI has great teachers, teachers that very effortlessly yet meticulously taught lives
lessons through languages and simple mathematics, complex mathematics, biology,
economics, politics, social sciences, value education, art and craft. These teachers
allowed to excel in whatever skill set we had, helped us to overcome fears and
shortcomings. In addition, it is round, which brings with it many other joys of life. USI is
a place to socialize, a place where every laugh, every tear are shared with friends,
these friends came into life without prejudice and expecting nothing in return, the
university shape the student to be better people, to be Vincentian leaders. USI also has
community extension services or ICESA (Integrated Community Extension Services and
Advocacies) this program is composed of educational services and social advocacy,
environmental rehabilitation, nutrition, health and wellness, and faith, value and
leadership formation, this programs aim to provide holistic and integral community
development by sharing the University’s expertise, resources and technologies.
All schools are good, but my school is the best in many aspects, and I believe
my school to be a God-given blessing. They are truly serving the nation and training us
to fully participate in the nation's growth. I consider myself fortunate to be in a country
with numerous schools that provide excellent education while also encouraging the
personal development of all citizens. It is a role model, and others should take note.
When I tell someone that I am a student at USI, they immediately grin since it is well-
known in the city. I am a proud student at this school, and I want to make my
instructors proud of me.
