Activity 11

Let’s Work on This

1. Look at the four pictures below and think of a word that you can associate with them.
Write 10 -15 sentences explaining why you chose that word to describe them.
-Based on my observation, I’ve seen Home. It’s like they find home in each others arms. When
an individual is at home, you feel safe and comfortable, no matter where you are in the world.
You may be thousands of kilometers away from where you grew up, or right next door. When
they bundle you up in their arms, home is the feeling you get and you know you are taken care
of. It doesn't matter where you come from or what you've been through when home is an entity.
Home is when, without obstacles, limitations, judgments, or aspirations, you are wholly and
unconditionally loved. Home is where you are most comfortable being your absolute self,
where you are treasured and celebrated for the unique flaws and quirks that make you
authentically you. When you find the right person, settle in. You’re home.

Activity 12

Let’s Get Down to Business

To check your understanding of the lesson, answer the following questions:

1. What are the important things the viewer or audience must consider to derive
meaning from the artwork?
 I think that a lot of people like to make rash decisions on artwork. When we first see them,
I like to compare this sort of appraisal of how we "scale up" individuals. Do we judge
individuals based on first experiences, at the snapshot in time, giving no thought to the
situations affecting their lives? Hopefully not; however, since they do not draw any
immediate significance or plot line from it, people have no trouble ignoring an artwork
outright. Others reject artwork on the basis of whether or not it is pretty.

2. How can improvisation contribute to the distinctive quality of the artwork?

 Infusing spontaneity and improvisation adds up to the totality of the work of art for some
artists. The unpredictability of the changes brought about by improvisation allows the
artwork to have a distinctive quality that creates its identity and individuality.

3. What is the reason why artists appropriate art?

 Artists of Appropriation want the viewer to recognize the images that they copy. They
hope that the viewer will bring to the artist's new context all his original associations with
the image, be it a painting, a sculpture, a collage, a combination, or an entire installation.
4. What are the two forms of forgery? Explain each.
 Simple Forgery – A simple forgery is the easiest type of forgery to identify because it does
not resemble a known signature. It may be the signature of a particular person, or it could
be a fictitious name.
 Simulated Forgery – This is the copying of a signature or other writing by “drawing” it. If
the writing contains enough normal characteristics of the writer’s true hand, it may be
possible to identify the writer. In any case, a determination can be made that the writing
itself was produced by simulation.
