Questions:

INSTRUCTIONS: Answer the 8 questions with a minimum of 50 words for each one.

1. What do you know?

a. Question: An Anonymous quote says: “There is a lot of difference
between Human being and Being human”. Create your own
perspective based on this viewpoint.

- Person — a human being regarded as an individual. Human — characteristic of people

as opposed to God or animals or machines, especially in being susceptible to
weaknesses. (If you notice something funny in the definitions, bear with me until the
end) Treating someone as a person means treating him or her as an individual. When
you treat someone as a person, you recognize that he or she is another individual,
different from yourself, who has his/her own hopes and disappointments. They have
their own fears, strengths and weaknesses that may be identical, similar or completely
different from yourself. When you treat someone as a person, you treat them as a man,
woman or anything in between depending on the individual person. You respect that
person. You understand that this person has a story to tell and you are curious to learn
more about it without judgment. But what if you treat someone as a human? If you
treat someone as a human, you acknowledge the fact that you are not different from
them. Paradoxically you treat them as an individual and as an indifferent member of a
pre-defined group. When you treat someone as a person, you are fair and you try to
give them what they deserve, whether it be good or bad. But when you treat someone
as a human you realize that sometimes we all need something that we don’t deserve. I
love the final words from the Dark Knight because they signify exactly this very idea
(“He’s not the hero we deserve, but the one we need”) Treating someone as a human
being instead of a person is often irrational, selfless, and detrimental to our own good.
It means giving someone a chance that they never earned, forgiveness that they don’t
deserve, or power that they can’t handle.
- A human being is an individual that is a part of a greater whole. A Human is a
creation of God and was brought to this world alone and shall die alone. Yet to be “
human” we have to know empathy and compassion. We must realize that this world
is not created for us alone. To be human means that you care for those that exist
around you as much as you care for yourself. A Human is an organism that is
granted life and the five senses. Yet “being human” we must make full use of those
senses to understand not just ourselves but those around us. Being human means
seeing the good in others and not just looking for their flaws. Being human means,
tasting the bitterness and sweetness of life and still find it in our hearts to be
charitable, forgiving and kind.

b. Explain the reason why you gave that answer? What was in your mind?

The values taught to me since I was young was on my mind when I made my answer. I
recalled the lessons taught to me at home and at school about treating others the
same way I wanted to be treated. With those values deeply ingrained to me since
childhood, I try to be as human as I can.

Another thought that occurred to me while I made that answer were the videos that I
watched on the internet. There are thousands of examples on the internet of people
around the world who express their humanity in big and small ways.

1. Analysis
a. Question: Looking at the image, what insights or realizations do you
discover? Give at least two (2).
The image is of a blank space and single dot in the center. The first thing I
noticed was the dot in the center. The dot on the center of all that
blankness is like a flaw. It was the first to be noticed. The vast pristine
blankness around it was ignored and was perceived to be just a
background. It made me think of human relationships. Sometimes we think
critically of others without getting to know them first. We notice the
imperfections of others first before we look at their good points.
Another realization me is, that you can trying to be too clean or flawless in
any way is not always a good thing. Just a simple mistake will be like that
dot. All good impression people have of you in the past will be gone as
long as you make even the smallest mistake.

b. What do you think are the qualities of Philippine art? In your opinion, what
makes Philippine art Filipino?

2. Assessment
Instructions: The answer to each question should have at least a minimum
of 50 Words.

1. If you were to add to the lesson, what would they be? Create new
ideas/knowledge and share it in the discussion.

If I were to add something to the lesson it would be- giving more emphasis
to other forms of Art. To further our knowledge in Art, I believe that we
have to be exposed to a more diverse form of expression.

2. Why do you think this philosophical theory of art can be an avenue for
the discussion and dissemination of these realities in our country? How
can the recipients of artworks be more involved.

Art evolves along with humanity. The artists incorporates the things they
feel a strong connection to with the forms of art that they create. Thus, Art
is a reflection of the reality that the artist experiences.

With the development of internet, many artist are now given a wider
audience to present their art. Artists nowadays often show their
involvement on national issues by posting their works on social media
platforms or on video streaming sites. These acts can spark discussion
and awareness to the people involved. By sharing and supporting the
artist, we the spectators can give them support by helping more people
know about those works.
3. Reflections
1. Examine the philosophical theory of art you learned. What significant
lesson did you find it personal?

From this lesson I learned that Art is an eternal representation of

Humanity. Through Art, human beings give substance to their connection
with their fellows and the world around them. I find it comforting that
should we perish like dust in the wind the memory of our lives were
preserved with Art.

2. In what part of the lesson did you find easy or hard to illustrate in the
way that you learned? Why?

I don’t think there is anything particularly easy or hard part to illustrate in

this lesson. Instead, I find that this lesson made me reconsider and reflect
on some of my views on Art. It made me appreciate that Art has a much
more deeper connection to me and the world around me.
